The case of Susan Monica, an Oregon woman, was covered covered on this week’s episode of the Oxygen television show “Snapped.” In an a bizarre story it turns out that she killed two men and fed them to her pigs.
The Story Of Susan Monica
Susan Monica was born Steven Buchanan in 1948. Buchanan served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War.
After being honorably discharged, Steven Buchanan began living as a woman – Susan Monica.
“She got into an engineering career and was very successful,” former Jackson County Sheriff’s Detective Eric Henderson said on “Snapped.”
Monica bought a 20-acre farm in Wimer, Oregon in 1991. She raised pigs and chickens on the farm.
In 2013, she hired Robert Haney to help her out around the farm.
“He was her handyman, laborer, carpenter. Whatever she asked of him, he did,” said her former employee Sean Leimanis.
Jesse Haney, Robert’s son said, “My dad and Susan Monica had a deal. My dad would get part cash and be able to stay on the property. My dad agreed to build a house from the bottom up.”
Jesse said that his father enjoyed the peace and quiet of living out in a rural area, but in December of 2013, his family began to get worried.
“We hadn’t seen or heard from my dad for two months. We just all started to panic,” Jesse explained.
On January 1, 2014, Jesse and his siblings went to Monica’s farm to look for their father.
She claimed that he had quit four months before, and that she had not seen him since.
“Susan Monica said that my dad just basically left. She wanted us to come retrieve our dad’s stuff,” Jesse recalled.
When Jesse and his siblings saw their father’s trailer, however, they knew something was wrong.
“His leather jacket was there. His dog was still running around and all his tools were there,” Jesse said. “It made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up.”

Haney Siblings Call The Police
Jesse and his siblings called the police and filed a missing persons report. Detectives drove out to Monica’s property.
“I would describe that property as eerie. There was a very strong odor there, a lot of decay,” said former Jackson County Sheriff’s Detective Julie Denney.
Susan Monica described Haney as a depressed man and that he began drinking heavily. She told the police she was going to talk with him about his drinking, but he approached her.
She also told the police that Haney left the property in a white car.
The police returned to the station and began trying to track Haney’s whereabouts.

Monica’s Bizarre Story
The police began to suspect foul play when they viewed someone using Haney’s EBT card in a Wal-Mart. It was not Haney, it was Susan Monica.
When searching and filing the property, they found a human leg in a catchment pond.
“It was clear that it was not an animal bone. It appeared to me to be a human leg that had been severed mid-femur, down to the toes,” Denney added.
When police brought in Monica for questioning, she told a truly bizarre story, claiming that she one day found her pigs in a feeding frenzy. When she looked to see what it was, she saw Haney laying there “with his guts all over the place.”
“He was being eaten, what I believed to be, alive,” Monica told detectives, adding that she couldn’t stop the pigs, so she shot Haney.
“I put him out of his misery,” she claimed. “I do that for my animals and this was the first time I did it for a human being and I knew it was wrong but if it were one of my pigs suffering out there, I would have done the same thing.”
Things got even more bizarre when Monica drew a map of her property and in the middle put an “X.”
“She said, ‘Right there. That’s where you’re going to find Steve,’” she told police.
Her First Murder
“Steve” was Stephen Delicino, a handyman who worked on Monica’s property a year before she hired Haney.
She claimed that two of her guns went missing in the summer of 2012, and when she confronted Delicino about it, they got into a wrestling match.
Monica claimed that as they wrestled, the gun went off, and Delicino was shot in the back of the head.
“At one point during the struggle, Stephan was down on his knees, she was above him, and she picked up the rifle and she shot him in the head,” Henderson said.
Monica then fed Delicino to her pigs and buried whatever was left of him.
When asked if there were any other dead bodies on her property, Henderson said that Monica chillingly said, “She told me that if she told me about the 17 others that she would spend the rest of her life in jail.”
Monica was convicted of the two murders in 2015 and sentenced to a minimum of 50 years in prison. To this day, police wonder about her claims of other victims over the years.
“My take on what she told me about the possibility of 17 other people being there was that it was true,” Henderson said. “I believe 100 percent that there are more people out there.”
In the end, police will probably never know the true extent of Monica’s crimes.
