Michael J. Fox Devastated After Death Of His ‘Great Dog And Loyal Friend’ Gus

Actor Michael J. Fox of “Family Ties” and Back To The Future fame is in mourning this week after the death of his beloved dog Gus.

Fox Mourns His Beloved Dog Gus

“Gus — great dog and loyal friend, we’ll miss you,” Fox wrote on Instagram alongside a photo of Gus, who died this week at the age of 12.

Fox added “NTLTF p. 220-222,” which refers to the pages in which he mentions Gus in his 2020 memoir “No Time Like the Future: An Optimist Considers Mortality.”

‘You Can Argue That He Rescued Me’

Gus was a Great Dane-Labrador mix who Fox described as a “wonder dog” in his book, according to People Magazine.

Fox remarked that Gus played a huge role in helping him deal with Parkinson’s disease after his diagnosis.

“I didn’t rescue Gus,” Fox wrote in his book. “You can argue that he rescued me, but he’d be too modest to make that claim.”

Fox opened up further about how much Gus has helped him when he appeared on the CBS primetime special, “The Pet Project.”

Take a look

“You know that no matter your situation, no matter what you feel, this animal is with you and is connected to you, and you feel,” Fox said at the time. “It’s a force multiplier.”

“Your instinct when you have a chronic illness is to sometimes isolate and make your world as small as possible so you don’t have much to deal with, but a dog will open you up,” the actor added.

Gus Helps Fox Recover From Surgery

Gus was particularly important in helping Fox recover from a major surgery to remove a tumor from his spinal cord.

Afterwards, Fox had to relearn how to walk. Gus was right there by his side the entire time.

In fact, Fox recalled how Gus was eagerly waiting for him by the door when he got home from the hospital in a wheelchair.

“He kind of circles the wheelchair with this low kind of woof woof, woof woof, and sat in front of the wheelchair right in front of me, and looked at me, and I said, ‘It’s going to be okay,'” Fox remembered.

Anyone who has ever lost a pet knows that there is nothing quite like that sense of pain and loss.

Please join us in saying a prayer for Fox and his family during this incredibly difficult time of loss.

James Conrad

James Conrad’s passion for politics is only overshadowed by his longstanding interest in Hollywood. His unique perspective as a gay conservative fuels him to challenge celebrity views and those who think they have a right to tell anyone how to think or vote. James proudly wields his minority point of view to combat identity politics and cut through his typecast. Fun fact: James’ guilty pleasure is the British royal family.
