It’s been more than 30 years since legendary actress Lucille Ball passed away, but she is still known to this day as one of the funniest women of all time. To Kate Luckinbill-Conner, however, Ball was just her “Nana.”
Ball’s Granddaughter Opens Up About Her
In an interview with the Today Show, Luckinbill-Conner opened up about the memories of her grandmother, revealing how she thinks she changed everything for working mothers.
“She was honest to a fault,” Luckinbill-Conner said of Ball. “Some people took that as tough. Some people took it as feminism. But it wasn’t, really. She was a regular American girl who had big dreams and no idea how to accomplish them.”
As we all know, Ball did indeed find a way to accomplish those big dreams. She starred on the iconic sitcom “I Love Lucy” in the 1950s.
She was a trailblazer in many ways during that period Ball was not only a woman starring on her own show, she was also running her very own production company.
She succeeded when women faced huge problems and discrimination in the work place. Outstanding business woman.

And, Ball even was pregnant on her show, something that was seen as scandalous at the time.

‘She Just Kept Pushing Ahead’
“She just kept pushing ahead,” Luckinbill-Conner said. “They wanted to have a family. They wanted to remain being a family. So I think that that’s really important for people to remember as part of the history. Because it allows us to remember that we can all have families and work if we support each other in that. If we’re together in us all wanting that balance, then we can find it.”
Luckinbill-Conner, who is the daughter of Lucille Ball’s daughter Lucie Arnaz, was unfortunately only 4 years old when her beloved “Nana” passed away in 1989.
Despite this, she was still left with memories of the comedic legend that she will treasure for a lifetime.
“We used to sit and watch ‘Inspector Gadget’ together,” she said. “And she would give me Oreos and milk and just sit behind me and play backgammon, and just keep me company.”
This is one tradition that Luckinbill-Conner continues to this day with her own son.
“I tell him that this is our Nana time,” she said.

Ball’s Legacy Is Going As Strong As Ever
Lucille Ball isn’t only living on through her family. She’s also lived on in the decades since her passing through reruns of her old shows that continuing to bring joy and laughter to millions of people every day.
There truly will never be another Lucille Ball.
