Inside Tom Brady’s Long History With Donald Trump

In the days before last week’s Super Bowl, we reported [1] that Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady was being attacked by USA Today [2] for his alleged prior support of former President Donald Trump. Trump and Brady have a long history dating back nearly two decades.

In the wake of Brady’s Super Bowl LV victory, we decided to take a look back at the long history of friendship between these two men.

Tom Brady And Donald Trump Go Way Back

The Independent [6] reported that Brady and Trump have been friends ever since 2002. The superstar quarterback flew to Indiana to be a judge in that year’s Miss USA pageant, which was owned by Trump at the time.

That invite from Trump made an impression. In fact, the Brady called that trip “one of the very first things that I did that I thought was really cool that came along with winning the Super Bowl” in a 2017 interview with Boston radio station WEEI.

The two have remained friends ever since. Though Brady has made it clear that he wants to stay out of politics, he has also refused to submit to liberals by publicly disavowing Trump.

Brady made it clear that he would not be throwing Trump under the bus in a December of 2015 interview when he was asked if he would support his presidential campaign.

“Can I just stay out of this debate? Donald is a good friend of mine,” Brady said emphatically [7]. “I have known him for a long time. I support all my friends. That is what I have to say.”

“I support all my friends in everything they do,” he added. “I think it’s pretty remarkable what he’s achieved in his life. You’re going from business, kind of an incredible business man and then a TV star, and then getting into politics. It’s three different career paths. I think that is pretty remarkable.”

5-Time Super Bowl MVP: ‘Friends Are Important’

Two months before that, Brady was had been asked about his relationship with Trump. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB answer showed just how loyal he really is.

“He’s a friend! That why,” Brady said. “Because friends are important in life and I’ve known him for a very long time, so certainly, you know, friendships you endure over the course of long periods of time, and he’s someone I played a lot of golf with and he’s a lot of fun to play golf with — although, I’d much rather be on his team when he play golf, than be against him.”

During this same time period, Brady was asked if he thinks Trump could win the election. It was here that he may have showed his hand when it came to voting for him, as he replied, “I hope so. That would be great.”

Once Trump took office, Brady appeared to try and distance himself from him more, but he still refused to describe him as anything other than a friend.

“I don’t want to get into it, but if you know someone it doesn’t mean you agree with everything they say or they do. You have a lot of friends in your life,” he said. “I think there are things that are based in your own dealings with someone that is a personal dealing, not a public dealing. Because you have personal experiences.”

Tom Brady Never Threw Trump Under The Bus

Brady has spent much of the past few years dodging questions about Trump every chance he gets, but it’s noticeable that he never appears to have said anything bad about him as a person.

We would not be surprised if behind closed doors, these two men are still friends, as Brady does not seem like the kind of person who throws friendships away because of politics.

Perhaps instead of condemning Brady, liberals could actually learn a lesson from him about loyalty and opening their minds to other peoples’ views.

In the end, NFL standout Tom Brady seems to be the antithesis to “cancel culture”. Which could be why the closed-minded liberal media seems to despise him so much.
