It’s the weekend, so we’ve got another SmackDown In A Nutshell. This week, Adam Pearce faces The Head of the Table.
As in, last week, Adam Pearce won the main event, giving him a title shot against Roman Reigns at the Royal Rumble.
Of course, that win was tainted, as Pearce benefited from Reigns and Jey Uso decimating Shinsuke Nakamura. Regardless, Pearce became the craziest number 1 contender in recent memory.
So, of course, we get that contract signing this week. Because, you know, you need that so that Adam Pearce can face the Head of the Table.
Outside of that, we do have that wonderful January PPV rapidly approaching. This SmackDown in a Nutshell will do it’s best to stay on top of any more announcements-including those random entry declarations!
We may even see some more between Apollo and Big E, if we are lucky…

Best Match of the night:
Jey Uso and Shinsuke Nakamura was very satisfying. Cesaro and Daniel Bryan was too.
Feel free to flip a coin or whatever you’d like.
Worst match of the night:
Apollo Crews and Sami Zayn have my vote. I think what made it even worse was it was very close to the main event this show.
Star of the Night
Well, this does feel like a rinse/repeat step, but Roman Reigns, Jey Uso and Paul Heyman earn top marks.
Adam Pearce and Kevin Owens too.
Spot of the Night:
Nothing really grabbed me tonight.
Jobber of the Night:
Sure felt like Sami Zayn here. Losing to Apollo Crews, and in under five minutes?
Jobber of the night indeed.
Upset of the Night:
You could perhaps argue that Cesaro over Daniel Bryan was one. I don’t think so, but I could see why.
My vote would actually be for Apollo. I get it, they want to build up Crews and that’s fine…but a quick win like that over Sami Zayn?
I’d have rather a 12-15 minute match to really make things click.
Holy Sh** Moment of the Night:
Not much. I’d go with Pearce opting out and Kevin Owens signing…though in the grand scheme that was kind of to be expected.
Botch of the night:
Cesaro did have a bad looking European uppercut. That is it, my only gripe tonight.
Noteworthy Moment:
I think we all knew by the end of last week’s show that there was no chance in Hell that Adam Pearce was working the Rumble. At least, not as a wrestler.
So, during the contract signing tonight, Pearce revealed that it is his right as a WWE official to replace himself in the match, as he will be physically unable to perform.
So, he picked…Kevin Owens.
I actually was tempted to drop this in as a lowlight. Crazy, right?
Only thought about it because, Owens is predictable (but also safe and the two of them have been exceptional). I would have loved Shinsuke getting a random shot, or some other twist.
But, the match works. Feud ends at the Rumble, and Reigns can turn his attention to whatever will culminate at WrestleMania.
Overall lowlights:
Crews and Zayn…
Billie Kaye…can someone in Stamford admit that the IIconics are better reunited, and just get it over with?
Bayley’s talk show wasn’t all that great. Seriously, how many wrestlers do we need hosting talking segments?
Overall highlights:
We had two really good matches of note (Jey and Shinsuke, Daniel Bryan and Cesaro).
I am not completely hating where Adam Pearce and Roman Reigns went tonight. I have a weird feeling Pearce will end up helping Reigns…but that is probably just me.
And…I am kind of glad to see Shinsuke Nakamura become a babyface again. Was a huge fan of his in NXT, and I think, if they use him right, he has a chance to capture that magic again.
After the final bell:
Well, we won’t have quite the big match that RAW is going for (assuming that their champ is cleared). But another Kevin Owens versus Roman Reigns clash?
There are worse things in life, to be honest.
Not a bad show, but I did feel as though there could have been more build for the Rumble outside of the major attraction.
