Bill Belichick Trump

The New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick has been a close friend of President Donald Trump for many years. He has even visited him at the White House multiple times over the past four years.

That’s why it had to have come as a shock to Trump that Belichick snubbed him by turning down the Presidential Medal of Freedom.

Belichick Snubs Trump

Belichick announced on Monday that he would be refusing this honor from Trump in a lengthy statement:

“Recently, I was offered the opportunity to receive the Presidential Medal of Freedom, which I was flattered by out of respect for what the honor represents and admiration for prior recipients. Subsequently, the tragic events of last week occurred and the decision has been made not to move forward with the award.

“Above all, I am an American citizen with great reverence for our nation’s values, freedom, and democracy. I know I also represent my family and the New England Patriots team. One of the most rewarding things in my professional career took place in 2020 when, through the great leadership within our team, conversations about social justice, equality, and human rights moved to the forefront and became actions. Continuing those efforts while remaining true to the people, team, and county I love outweigh the benefits of any individual award.”

On social media, there are those who are upset by Belichick’s refusal of the honor:

And there are those who think it’s the best move of his career. Take a look:

Belichick And Trump’s Friendship

Belichick and Trump have been openly close friends since before he even became president. On the day before his election victory in 2016, Trump showed his friendship with Belichick to the world by reading out a letter the Patriots coach had written to him.

“Congratulations on a tremendous campaign. You have dealt with an unbelievable slanted and negative media, and have come out beautifully – beautifully,” Trump read. “You’ve proved to be the ultimate competitor and fighter. Your leadership is amazing.”

“I have always had tremendous respect for you, but the toughness and perseverance you have displayed over the past year is remarkable,” he added. “Hopefully, tomorrow’s election results will give the opportunity to make America great again. Best wishes for great results tomorrow.”

Belichick’s former quarterback Tom Brady is also known to be a close personal friend of Trump.

Golfers Attacked For Accepting Presidential Medal Of Freedom

Last week we reported that golfers Gary Player and Annika Sorenstam were being slammed publicly for accepting Presidential Medals of Freedom from Trump the day after the Capitol riots. Player’s own son even took to social media to attack his father for accepting this award from Trump.

“I wish my father would simply & politely decline this ‘award’ at this time. Tone deaf. In denial. Wrong!!” Player’s son tweeted.

After standing by Trump for years, it’s unfortunate that Belichick has finally caved to the liberal mob. He’s letting them pressure him into refusing a once-in-a-lifetime honor from a sitting president.

If Belichick is going to let the closed-minded left bully him into refusing the award, he may not deserve the Presidential Medal of Freedom anyway.
