Max Holloway Insists He’s Not Looking Past Calvin Kattar

Calvin Kattar has questioned whether Max Holloway could be focused on regaining his featherweight belt and the man who holds it, Alexander Volkankovi, rather than him. But, according to ‘Blessed’, he is completely zoned in on beating the content at UFC Fight Island 7.

Holloway asks how could he overlook Kattar?

The 29-year-old Holloway is booked to fight Kattar on January 16th, which will mark the first time since 2016 that ‘Blessed’ has fought in a non-title fight. This could be a reason that not long ago, Kattar warned Holloway not to look past him, and forward to avenging his losses to Alexander Volkanovski.

But, while talking to Yahoo! Sports since then, Holloway insisted that he’s keenly aware of how good Kattar is, and that he’s not overlooking the 32-year-old (quotes via MMA Mania).

“At the end of the day, we’re fighting five rounds,” Holloway said.“There’s no less work. I’ve got to do the same amount of work, the same amount I’ve been doing for a title fight – the same rules, the same everything.”

“Calvin is a dangerous dude, and we know he is dangerous because he will be standing across from me, and I’m excited for it,” said Holloway.

“He’s from Boston. People like to talk about his boxing and people like to talk about my boxing, so the fun thing is …

Calvin was saying something like I’m overlooking him, this and that. I can’t. How can I overlook you? He made it here.

I’ve got to respect that. At the end of the day, I just can’t wait to fight him. I can’t wait to go in there and see what he has to offer.”

In addition, Holloway also said the following, about his decision losses to the champ, Volkanovski.

“There’s no talk. There’s no regrets. We did what we did.

The past is called ‘the past’ for a reason. You move on. You get on with the day, and I’m going to do hard work.

This ain’t my first rodeo. I’ve told a lot of people, ‘If I’ve got to go out and get another 10-win streak, that’s what I’ve got to do.”

Holloway sounds focused on the task at hand

Now, it is true that Holloway has said he believes he defeated Volkanovski in their rematch, and since that fight was so competitive, there were calls for a third bout.

But, Holloway has always seemed like a fighter who doesn’t get too up, or down, with the ebbs and flows of a fighting career. So, it would be pretty surprising if he’s overlooking Kattar.

Holloway – Kattar will headline UFC Fight Island 7, which will take place in Abu Dhabi.
