Dolly Parton Teams Up With Barry Gibb To Reboot A Classic Bee Gees Song

Country music legend Dolly Parton rang in the new year by rebooting an old song with her good friend and fellow legend, Bee Gees co-founder Barry Gibb.

Dolly Parton And Barry Gibb Team Up For ‘Words’

USA Today [1] reported that Parton and Gibb teamed up to sing the 1977 Bee Gees classic “Words,” dropping the track online this past Friday.

The song is featured on the upcoming all-star album “Greenfields: The Gibb Brothers Songbook, Vol. 1.,” which is due to be released on January 8.

I was honored when my dear friend @GibbBarry asked me to join him for a special version of ‘Words’ on his new album!” Parton tweeted alongside a teaser of them recording the song. “Listen to our version of the @BeeGees classic now.”

Gibb tweeted out [7] the teaser as well.

The British-American singer/songwriter/producer wrote, “Happy New Year everyone! So excited to share #words with you all. @DollyParton and I had so much fun singing this song together from my new album #greenfields.”

‘Greenfields’ Album Features Bee Gees Hits Redone By Big Names

The album “Greenfields” is full of Bee Gees songs that are redone by a who who’s across the music industry.

The album features some big names in country music: Little Big Town (“How Deep Is Your Love”), Alison Krauss (“Too Much Heaven”), , Keith Urban (“I’ve Gotta Get a Message to You”)

As well as songs by popular female artists Olivia Newton-John (“Rest Your Love on Me”), Sheryl Crow (“How Can You Mend a Broken Heart”), and Brandi Carlile (“Run to Me”).

The “Greenfields” albums also includes tracks by Jason Isbell (“Words of a Fool”) and Gillian Welch and David Rawlings (“Butterfly” [9]).

Dave Cobb, who produced the album, told The Tennesseean [10] that on the first day of recording, he found himself jamming out in the studio with Parton and Gibbs.

“They’re both 4 feet from me and I’m playing guitar and I start walking to where my guitar was and my legs starting shaking,” Cobb said.

“Just terrifying. Not only are they legends, icons — Dolly has a theme park and Barry’s a knight. It’s a lot to take in.”

Dolly Parton Helps Fund COVID-19 Vaccine

Her “Words” collaboration with Bee Gees co-founder Barry Gibb isn’t Dolly Parton’s only gift to us this new year.

The “Jolene” singer was as busy as ever in 2020, recording her “A Holly Dolly Christmas” album. The country icon even took time out to make a one million dollar donation to COVID-19 research.

In November, the “Dolly Parton COVID-19 Research Fund” was listed in the footnotes of a New England Journal of Medicine [11] article about Moderna’s vaccine.

“I’m just happy that anything I do can help somebody else, and when I donated the money to the Covid fund, I just wanted it to do good,” Parton told TODAY [12] after this came to light. “Evidently, it is. Let’s just hope we find a cure real soon.”
