Country Music’s Ronnie Dunn Takes On Cancel Culture Mob In Defense Of Blake Shelton And His New Song ‘Minimum Wage’
Ronnie Dunn and Sammy Hagar rushed to defend Blake Shelton from being "cancelled" for his new country song "Minimum Wage."
Country music star and “The Voice” coach Blake Shelton became the latest celebrity to be targeted by cancel culture this week for his new song “Minimum Wage.” Luckily for him, fellow country star Ronnie Dunn of “Brooks & Dunn” fame stepped up with a lengthy defense of Shelton. Dunn wasn’t alone in his support as legendary Red Rocker Sammy Hagar had Shelton’s back as well.
Blake Shelton Hit With Backlash For New Country Song, “Minimum Wage”
It all started when Shelton debuted “Minimum Wage” on New Year’s Eve.
The song is believed to be about Shelton’s love for his fiancé, fellow “The Voice” coach and ska artist Gwen Stefani. But social media users were triggered by the fact Shelton’s song contained lyrics about being broke.
Does anyone else find Blake Shelton’s “Minimum Wage” song to be incredibly tone deaf to our country’s current state?

Not only was the outrage mob fuming that Shelton had written a song about financial problems during a global pandemic, they were also upset that he was singing a song about being broke when he’s a multi-millionaire himself.
Apparently these keyboard warriors are not well versed in country music. The woes of the working class man are a common theme across the popular genre.

Shelton is not the first and certainly will not be the last artist to pay tribute to the working man in a country song.
Ronnie Dunn Defends Blake Shelton
Fellow Oklahoman Dunn of award-winning country music duo “Brooks & Dunn”, however, was not having any of it.
67-year-old Ronnie Dunn put his own neck on the line and took to social media to offer a lengthy defense of Blake Shelton:
The “beef” is yet another of those misguided social issue (cultural scams) that are concocted to further divide this country. I’m putting my money on the common sense of the common man to call bullshit on the forces at work to keep this country divided.
Now, they want to attack country singers for being successful.
I slept on a mattress on the floor in a musician friend’s spare bedroom and played BEER JOINTS / DIVE BARS for years before I ever made a $100. Most country singers pay dues and go through things to become successful that no sane human being would.
I grew up poor. My father was a truck driver, avid country music fan and oilfield worker all his life. My mother worked a “minimum wage” job as a small town bank teller to help support a family with four kids.
The entire world wants to hitch a free ride on the American Dream. Those that don’t want to diminish or destroy it.

American Made, Country Music singin’, song writin’ millionaire sumbitch!

Thanks Go Out To Ronnie Dunn And Sammy Hagar
While Blake Shelton has yet to comment on the controversy surrounding his new song, he did thank Ronnie Dunn and his fellow artist Sammy Hagar for their support.
“When your fans, @RonnieDunn and @sammyhagar have your back it’s gonna be a good year. Bring it on 2021,” Shelton tweeted.

This cancel culture nonsense has gotten so out of control that it’s difficult to do nearly anything publicly without risking being “cancelled.”
God bless Ronnie Dunn and Sammy Hagar for having the guts to stand against the tide of cancel culture. Real country music fans understand the genre. And they love Blake Shelton!
Now we wait to see if the cancel culture mob comes for a legend like Ronnie Dunn. The Country Music Hall of Famer did the right thing but also put himself at risk by daring to defend his fellow artist and friend.
Here’s hoping that Blake Shelton is able to weather this storm unscathed. And that we don’t see yet another life destroyed by the scourge that is cancel culture.
