Once again, the UFC was hit hard by the COVID-19 bug late, as three bouts planned for UFC on ESPN: Hermansson vs. Vettori were scrapped at the last minute.

However, the show went on live on ESPN2 and ESPN+ from the UFC Apex in Las Vegas.

Marvin Vettori took advantage of his spot in the main event, earning a decision victory over Jack Hermansson. Vettori replaced Kevin Holland after originally being booked to meet Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza at UFC 256.

Vettori swept all three scorecards, winning two 49-46 and the third 49-45.

Dana White’s Contender Series prospect Jamahal Hill continued his unbeaten ways, stopping Ovince Saint Preux in the second round. Hill unloaded with a series of heavy strikes, forcing the ref to step in with OSP still standing.

Another interesting new face made a statement in the lightweight division as Gabriel Benitez finished Justin Jaynes. Benitez landed with a nasty knee before peppering Jaynes in the first round for the win.

Roman Dolidze claimed a split decision over John Allan, using his effective work on the ground to pick up the win in the light heavyweight division.

Lightweight Jordan Leavitt served notice, opening the main card with a 23-second knockout of Matt Wiman. Leavitt picked up the veteran and slammed him to the canvas, earning the win.

The shortened prelims featured two finishes. Ilia Topuira knocked Damon Jackson out in the first round and Louis Smolka stopped Jose Alberto Quinonez in the second. Jake Collier downed Gian Villante to begin the night.
