Colby Covington Claims Jorge Masvidal is “Hiding”

For sometime now, the expectation has been that Colby Covington and Jorge Masvidal are going to fight next. But, as this is being written, the fight has yet to be booked.

Well, according to ‘Chaos’, the reason the bout has yet to be signed is because his former buddy, turned foe, is in “hiding”.

Covington claims Masvidal is “nowhere to be found”

Talk about Covington and Masvidal fighting has been making the rounds for a long time now. But, after Masvidal lost to welterweight champ Kamaru Usman in July, and Covington beat Tyron Woodley in September, buzz for the fight spiked.

The reason being that it seems like the timing’s right, and UFC President Dana White also said in September that Covington – Masvidal “makes sense”.

But, with 2021 fast approaching, there’s been no news on when or if the fight will happen. Recently Covington spoke with Submission Radio, and he made the following claim (quotes via MMA Junkie).

“I’m good to go on my end,” Covington said. “I’m ready to go. I gave them my verbal (agreement), and I’m a man of my word.

I’m gonna show up and do what I do best, that’s win and fight hard, (and) put on a show for the fans around the world.”

“Getting Jorge ‘Street Judas’ Masvidal on board is a whole other story,” Covington said. “The guy, I mean, he’s got no options, and he thinks he’s gonna fight Conor (McGregor), he wants the easy fight with the ‘soy boy’ Nate Diaz.

The guy is desperate right now. You don’t want to fight the No. 1 guy in the world? I’m the No. 1 guy in the world.”

“Where’s he at now? Now you haven’t heard a peep out of him. He’s completely silent.

I think it’s going to show the fans the truth, and he’s gonna lose all that street cred.

All that street cred for being a badass mother (expletive), for being a street king and a street fighter, and just the baddest dude who would show up at any time, he’s losing all that credibility by the day, because he’s nowhere to be found.”

Thoughts?

Now, sure, Covington is known for making over the top statements and inflammatory remarks. But, it does seem like recently, at least publicly, that Masvidal and his camp aren’t forcefully trying to make the Covington fight happen.

That doesn’t mean, of course, that Masvidal’s ducking the fight. It could be that his team is looking to secure more money for him.

Although, if that’s the case, you would think that Masvidal would be out there, actively calling for the bout more vehemently, as means to drive up interest.

All that said, on paper, most would likely agree that it’s not the most favorable match-up for Masvidal.

After his massive, 2019 campaign, he came up short against Usman. Covington doesn’t have the power that Usman does, but he certainly brings a ton of pressure, volume striking and of course, takedowns.

So, another follow-up loss to Covington would be a significant setback, in terms of the momentum ‘Gamebred’ had built up.
