Jon Jones Tells Israel Adesanya to “Sign The Contract” in Latest Exchange

In a span of a few weeks, we’ve gone from where a bout between Jon Jones and Israel Adesanya didn’t seem likely to happen anytime soon, to “Bones” telling “The Last Stylebender” to sign the “contract”.

Jones challenges Adesanya to “sign the contract”

If you’re a hardcore fan, you know that Adesanya and Jones have been trading verbal shots for months. As a result, there was a ton of hype about the two fighting, until Jones vacated the light heavyweight title not long ago for a run at heavyweight.

But, after Adesanya cruised through Paulo Costa at UFC 253, he repeated his desire to face Jones, regardless of what weight division he’s in. That’s kicked off social media war between the two, and talk about the superfight has peaked once again.

Case in point, recently the stars had the following, Twitter exchange.

Here’s some of what Jones recently shared out (warning: graphic language).

“Instead of calling our Fans dummies, why don’t you just sign the contract. You mad?”

“Scared and backed into a corner. No clever way around this one. He’s officially been called on his shit.. Would rather fight Jared cannoneer, former heavyweight that was knocked out by Dominic Reyes”

And here are some of Adesanya’s responses.

You’ve been here before
You know each fight I’m just getting better and better and the momentum is real.
Calm your self and wait it out if you want. You will get this work!!
I seen you LIVE against Thiago.
You’re sloooooow
You’re weathered
You’re washed

I saw the Dom fight.
You’re washed Jonathan.
The level of shot selection I have for you is already set.
Bring that wrestling too.
Watch me sprawl my nuts on the back of your head as your face kisses the canvas.

But could Adesanya – Jones happen next?

Now, following UFC 253, Adesanya did say he wants to fight Jared Cannonier next, if he beats Robert Whittaker on October 24th. Interestingly, however, Adesanya’s coach, Eugene Bareman, recently told Submission Radio this (quote via BJ Penn.com).

“If Cannonier didn’t want to turn around and fight, then Israel would definitely fight at 205,” Bareman said. “We’ve already had a little chat about that. He would be perfectly willing to do that.

So much is just dependent on those results in the middleweight division.”

“He has got his heart set on doing that fight,” Adesanya said. “It doesn’t matter where Jon Jones goes. If he goes to heavyweight, goes to light heavyweight, goes up and loses two fights, three fights, wins the next three fights, Israel has his heart set on that fight.

So yeah, that fight’s gonna happen, I’m just not sure when.

“If we needed to fight that fight in the next six months, then I would be happy to do that, but again, that’s a team decision,” Bareman added. “That’s how we work.”

So, it will be interesting to see what goes down here. If Cannonier loses to Whittaker, or takes some significant damage in the bout, could we see Adesanya – Jones next?

Dana White is clearly looking to make the fight a reality.
