Jon Jones

Israel Adesanya and Jon Jones continue to trade verbal shots via interviews and social media posts. Well, in an interesting turn, “Bones” has admitted he hid from drug testers a few years ago.

Jones admits he hid from NSCA reps

The feud between Jones and Adesanya appeared to have simmered down a fair bit, at least publicly, after Jones announced he was vacating the light heavyweight belt to make a run at heavyweight. Prior to that, the stars had been going to war online for months.

But, following Adesanya’s decisive win over Paulo Costa at UFC 253 last month, “The Last Stylebender” announced he still wants to fight “Bones” (no matter what weight he’s competing at). Since then, the two have been firing verbal jabs at each other on a regular basis.

In one of their latest exchanges, however, Jones made an eyebrow raising, admission. It all started with Adesanya’s comment below.

“Fun Facts! I napped under the cage in 2010 cuz I didn’t wanna waste gas going home so I stayed at the gym till evening training,” Adesanya tweeted.

“Jonathan stayed under the cage to hide from USADA during a random drug test. This is facts. Y’all must have forgot.”

To which Jones responded with.

“I was hiding from Nevada State Athletic Commission, not USADA and that was years ago.

“I had just smoked a blunt and was afraid I would fail my test for weed. That’s the actual truth. Now everyone knows.”

If you’ve followed Jones’ career, then you’re well aware of his various run-ins with the commission, USADA, as well as the law. So, this revelation shouldn’t be a surprise.

Adesanya talks timeline for fight with Jones

This exchange aside, recently there’s been renewed buzz about if and when Adesanya – Jones will happen. “Bones” has called on Adesanya to “sign the contract”, but it sounds like the middleweight champ has mid-2021 in mind.

While talking to MMA Junkie recently, Adesanya relayed he intends to fight Jones in around 10 months time.

“That’s the biggest fight in UFC history,” Adesanya said. “I’ve set the date. I’ve set it a long time ago. … I’ve said it on many, many platforms.

And it’s going to happen. But they’re trying to force it. They tried to get me three fights ago. They’re trying to force my hand because they don’t understand the power of momentum.

I’m telling you, man, I can’t be stopped right now. Don’t get me wrong. It’s me. I can stop myself.

But the momentum I have right now, I can’t be stopped. It’s a force you can’t (expletive) with.”

So, we’ll see what happens. After UFC 253, Adesanya said he wants to fight Jared Cannonier next, if he beats Robert Whittaker at UFC 253, October 24th.

But what if Whittaker wins? Could that move up the timeline for Adesanya – Jones?

Either way, hopefully we get to see these two throw down in the not too distant future.
