Gegard Mousasi is Bellator’s middleweight champ once again, as the highly regarded vet used his wrestling and pressure to outscore Douglas Lima at Bellator 250.

Round one

Mousasi came out pressuring and shot in on Lima’s legs moments in. Lima was able to defend the initial takedown, however, and a clinch battle ensued. Mousasi worked to Lima’s back and started hunting for a choke while firing in shots. Eventually Mousasi tripped Lima to the deck and he started tossing punches and elbows from above. Mousasi planted several, hard elbows from above before the round ended.

Round two

Mousasi pressed forward to begin round two, but neither fighter offered much in volume. Lima planted a nice right a couple minutes in. Moments later he followed up with a combo. Mousasi scored with a leg kick a little while later and then shot in for a takedown. Lima defended and another clinch battle ensued. The two broke apart before the rounded ended but neither man landed much in the final moments.

Round three

Once again in round three, Mousasi continued to move forward behind the odd kick. Lima just missed with a big hook a couple of minutes in, but the volume remained relatively low. Mousasi continued to offer more strikes, however, as Lima looked to counter.

Round four

Mousasi shot in not long into the round and clinched up. Mousasi moved to Lima’s back and worked from there for a bit, but the welterweight champ escaped. Lima scored with a couple of leg kicks that had Mousasi switching stances a bit. Mousasi resumed moving forward in the final moments of the round.

Round five

Lima pressured more to begin round five, likely understanding he needs a finish to win the bout. Lima scored with a hard jab and then he planted another leg kick. Lima landed another hard leg kick moments later. Lima just missed with a huge right moments later but Mousasi countered with a beautifully timed takedown. Lima started rolling from his back and threw strikes from the bottom, but it was too little, too late.

Mousasi was awarded the bout by all three judges. The decorated fighter reclaims the middleweight title after he lost it to Rafael Lovato Jr. in 2019.
