Now that Jon Jones has dropped the light heavyweight title and is heading to heavyweight, Jan Blachowicz has other tasks in mind, like beating Dominick Reyes.

But, the dangerous contender still believes he’ll battle Jones down the line at some juncture.

Blachowicz says he’ll “catch” Jones in the future

If you follow Blachowicz, then you know it wasn’t that long ago when there was a lot of talk about him fighting Jones. After the Polish fighter bombed-out Corey Anderson in February, Blachowicz drove hard for a fight with Jones.

At the time, Reyes was also campaigning for a rematch with Jones, on account of the fact a lot of folks scored their February fight for him. Jones, however, seemed more interested in fighting Blachowicz.

Well, fast forward to today, and a lot has changed. Jones is no longer the UFC’s light heavyweight champ and Blachowicz is fighting Reyes for the vacant title, September 26th.

While talking to MMA Junkie recently, Blachowicz had this to say about the fact he’s fighting Reyes for the belt, and not Jones.

“I’m just happy the fight will be for the title,” Blachowicz said. “Dominick Reyes is also a really good fighter, one of the best in the world, so we both deserve to have this chance and we got it, so I don’t think about Jon Jones right now.

He doesn’t exist for me right now. I’m thinking only about Dominick Reyes.”

But, while Jan’s focus is on his upcoming bout with Reyes, he still hopes to throw hands with “Bones”.

“Right now, I believe that in the future I’ll meet Jon Jones anyway, so right now, only Dominick Reyes is in my head,” Blachowicz said.

“I think that he will come back to 205 in the future. If not, I can go to heavyweight also – no problem for me – and catch him over there.”

Could we see Jones – Blachowicz at some juncture?

It would be silly to say never. As the history of MMA has shown us, anything is possible.

But, a lot would have to fall into place before we see these two fight. Jones would either need to flop at heavyweight and then come back down to 205. Or, Blachowicz needs to win the light heavyweight title, clean out the division, and then move up to heavyweight.

It’s also worth noting here that Blachowicz is turning 38 next February. So, chances are these cards will need to fall into place within the next couple of years.
