Geoff Neal

Not only is Geoff Neal no longer fighting Neil Magny on August 29th as scheduled, the rising welterweight’s reporting he nearly died from a medical issue that has yet to be diagnosed.

Neal reports he “almost died”

Recently it was reported that Neal was no longer going to fight Magny at UFC Vegas 8. But, since then, the fighter himself shared out the troubling and terrifying news below.

“These past few week have been crazy, and that’s putting it lightly. It’s really hard to try to find an eloquent way to say “I almost died.”

So screw it.. I almost died…. This really put alot of things into perspective for me. Never did I ever think I would be hooked up to a dialysis machine before my 30s.

Everything was going well for me. Was training everyday, making money at work, just signed a contract for a huge fight, then BOOM, life hit me with a check hook.

I’m just glad to be home after having to spend 1 week in the ICU. Stay healthy out there y’all and listen to your body at all times”

According to a follow-up report from MMA Junkie, doctors still aren’t sure what brought on Neal’s illness. COVID-19, however, has been ruled out. The welterweight is reportedly back home now.

Hopefully, the 29-year-old has a full and speedy recovery. The 29-year-old has been making some serious waves in the UFC’s welterweight division, as Neal has won all five of his UFC bouts to date.

Most recently, in December, he stormed through Mike Perry and finished him in the opening round.

Robbie Lawler’s stepping in

Since news of Neal’s withdrawal from UFC Vegas 8 was reported, MMA DNA was the first to relay that Robbie Lawler was the frontrunner as a replacement. Since then other outlets have reported that Lawler will fight Magney on August 29th.
