Since Sean O’Malley was stopped by Marlon Vera at UFC 252, he’s repeatedly diminished what “Chito” did in the fight. As a result, some folks have taken issue with O’Malley’s comments, but it doesn’t like “Sugar” is about to change course.

O’Malley says Vera got “lucky”

Vera became the first man to defeat the bantamweight prospect earlier this month, by stopping the talented fighter in the first round. After O’Malley incurred some issues with his lead leg, Vera was quick to swarm and he finished the bout with a series of punches and elbows.

Replays showed that O’Malley started having trouble with his leg after he took a hard kick from “Chito”, and the latter cited that fact. But, O’Malley stopped short of crediting Vera for the win and called the bantamweight a “journeyman”.

O’Malley’s take and post-fight comments prompted criticism. Case in point, Darren Till told O’Malley he needs to “take the loss”. But it seems clear O’Malley has his mind made up.

While talking on his YouTube channel recently, the fighter reportedly said this (quotes via MMA Fighting).

“Did he win? Yes,” O’Malley said. “Am I undefeated? Yes. Mentally, I’m undefeated. I felt superior in there until my foot gave out.

“I probably sound stupid. That’s OK, because look at me. I’m a little not that smart, eh, but I am that smart, because you’re watching this video.

And guess what, I get paid to make videos. So you guys commenting, hating, you’re getting me paid, so thank you.”

And while talking about the kick that changed the tide of the fight, O’Malley said this.

“If you guys know what a calf kick is, go watch me kick his calf hard,” O’Malley said. “That sh*t hurts. I’ve been dropped by calf kicks in sparring. …

It doesn’t do what it made my foot do. What happened to my foot, I got kicked on this nerve right here.

Did he get lucky? Yes. Did he win? The nerve gave me drop foot, and then I sprained my ankle, like, four times.”

In addition, O’Malley had this fiery response to folks saying he should accept his loss.

“Take your loss like a man,” he said,  while apparently imitating a whiny voice.

“I lose every day. I went to jiu-jitsu and trained hard today, and guess what, I lost. I slapped that dude’s hand: ‘That was sick bruddah.’

….And you guys are like, ‘Well, you lost.’ I get it. But mentally, I didn’t lose. Rewatch that fight. I was about to start beating his ass.”

Not surprising?

So, when you consider what O’Malley’s said to date about the defeat, the fact he’s not changing course and heaping credit on Vera for the win isn’t a shock. It’s also worth noting that by the time these two fought, and based on what went down in the fight, it’s clear these two have a sizeable beef.
