Meghan Markle Royal protocol

Months after stepping down as a senior member of the British royal family, Meghan Markle is showing what little regard she has for royal protocol by defiantly indicating her intent to vote in the upcoming American 2020 presidential election via Marie Claire article.

In case you’re wondering how Meghan Markle might vote, she is mentioned and pictured alongside Alexandra Ocasio-Cortez, Michelle Obama, and Megan Rapinoe. The Marie Claire article also features Oprah, Stacey Abrams and Hillary Clinton.

Meghan Markle Bucks Royal Protocol Regarding Politics

Royal protocol dictates that members of the Royal Family stay out of politics and remain politically neutral. The former “Suits” actress chose to marry into the Royal Family while understanding the obligations and etiquette attached thereto. But Meghan Markle doesn’t care.

That was readily apparent when she convinced Prince Harry to step away from their royal duties during Megxit.

And now, Meghan is flaunting her independence by participating in this Marie Claire article featuring “1oo Influential Women On Why They’re Voting in the 2020 Election”.

Marie Claire profiled each woman on the list to explain why voting in this election is so important to them.

Meghan Markle Quotes NZ Suffragist In Marie Claire Article

Technically, Meghan is no longer a senior member of the British Royal Family. So she might feel like she no longer needs to abide by what the Queen says.

But, it is still a slap in the face to the monarchy to be so open about participating in politics. Especially when Meghan knows the Queen would want her to stay out of elections.

“I know what it’s like to have a voice, and also what it’s like to feel voiceless,” Meghan told the magazine. “I also know that so many men and women have put their lives on the line for us to be heard. And that opportunity, that fundamental right, is in our ability to exercise our right to vote and to make all of our voices heard.”

“One of my favorite quotes, and one that my husband and I have referred to often, is from Kate Sheppard, a leader in the suffragist movement in New Zealand, who said, ‘Do not think your single vote does not matter much. The rain that refreshes the parched ground is made up of single drops,'” Meghan continued. “That is why I vote.”

Though the Duchess of Sussex did not explicitly say that she plans to cast a ballot in this election, the fact that she is included in a story titled “100 Influential Women on Why They’re Voting in the 2020 Election” makes it pretty clear that she intends to vote.

Meghan Markle Bashes Trump In Newly Surfaced Clip

Meghan did not elaborate on who she plans to vote for in the article. But her past comments about Donald Trump indicate that she is a devoted liberal and no fan of the President.

In the months leading up to the 2016 election, and prior to meeting her now-husband Prince Harry, Meghan was open about her disdain for Trump as she made media appearances promoting her television show “Suits.”

In one particular interview with talk show host Larry Wilmore, Meghan held nothing back in blasting the president.

“Yes, of course, Trump is divisive, think about female voters alone, right? I think it was in 2012 the Republican Party lost the female vote by 12 points; that is a huge number and with as misogynistic as Trump is, and so vocal about it, that is a huge chunk of it,” Meghan said in the 2016 interview. “You’re not just voting for a woman if it’s Hillary because she’s a woman, but certainly because Trump has made it easy to see that you don’t really want that kind of world that he’s painting.”

The Queen Cannot Be Happy About This

Queen Elizabeth has managed to keep the royal family alive and well for decades. Her success comes in part from ensuring that all of its members remained politically neutral in public at all times.

No doubt, the Queen be exasperated to see that Meghan and Harry continue to inch closer and closer to the realm of politics.
