UFC Fight Night: Figueiredo Vs. Benavidez 2 Results: New Champion Crowned

Deiveson Figuiredo made sure there would be nothing stopping him this time around.

Figuiredo went through weigh-ins and choked out Joseph Benavidez to claim the vacant UFC flyweight title Saturday night at UFC Fight Night 172. The event took place from Fight Island in Abu Dhabi and streamed live on ESPN+.

After dropping Benavidez several times in the first round, he finally secured the rear-naked choke on the multi-time title contender. Benavidez escaped the first handful of choke attempts, but went out on the final one.

Figueiredo missed weight for the first meeting and was not allowed to claim the vacant belt at that time.

Jack Hermansson claimed his biggest win to date, catching former title contender Kelvin Gastelum with a heel-hook in the first round.

Hermansson improved to 5-1 over his last six and 21-5 overall in his career with the win. He has topped Gastelum, Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza and Thales Leites since 2018.

For Gastelum, the loss was his third straight following decision defeats to Darren Till and current UFC champion Israel Adesanya.

Rafael Fiziev topped Marc Diakiese via decision in a lightweight contest. Ariane Lipski submitted Luana Carolina and Askar Askarov started the main card with a decision over Alexandre Pantoja.

On the prelims, Roman Dolidze, Grant Dawson, Joel Alvarez, Brett Johns, Amir Albazi, Arman Tsarukyan and Sergey Spivak were all winners.
