Gregg Popovich

Gregg Popovich, the coach of the San Antonio Spurs NBA team, recently took to Twitter to slam anyone who does not support the Black Lives Matter movement.

Spurs’ Gregg Popovich Praises Black Lives Matter Movement

While being interviewed by reporters ahead of the upcoming basketball season, Popovich was asked what social justice means to him.

“It’s no different for me than it is to anybody else who cares about justice and who can be empathetic to the fact that justice has been denied to a group of people for far too long. And enough is enough,” he said.  “Everybody’s tired of it, especially the group that has been degraded and savaged for so long. People who don’t understand Black Lives Matter or are offended by it are just ignorant.”

Popovich has long been outspoken when it comes to fighting for social justice issues, and he has previously said that this upcoming season is about more than just basketball.

Gregg Popovich Attacks Texas Leaders

Recently, Popovich attacked Texas’ Republican leaders for their handling of the COVID-19 pandemic, calling Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R) and Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick (R) “cowards” who are “afraid.”

“We have a lieutenant governor who decided he doesn’t want to listen to [Anthony] Fauci and those people any more,” Popovich said, according to The Hill. He went on to add sarcastically, “That makes a lot of sense. How safe can that be? The messaging is ridiculous.”

He then shifted his attack towards Abbott, saying the governor “goes back and forth based on whether he has to satisfy [President] Trump or listen to the numbers.”

“Politics show maybe he better do this because the virus has done that. But no overall policy, no principle,” Popovich said. “It’s all about politics. It’s all about what’s good for them. And ‘them’ means Trump. Because they’re all cowards and they’re all afraid.”

He concluded by saying that his state is “all over the map” with how it is handling the pandemic.

“Nobody knows what the hell’s going on,” Popovich said.

What About Texas Conservatives?

Gregg Popovich seems to be forgetting the fact that many Texas fans of the Spurs are proud conservatives who will not agree with his radically liberal political views.

Perhaps he should think a little more about keeping his political opinions to himself.
