Khamzat Chimaev Plans to Pass Khabib Nurmagomedov in P4P Ranks

Khamzat Chimaev has done nothing but impress since he arrived in the UFC. After all, he’s become the first fighter in UFC history to win two fights in just 10 days.

But, according to the Chechen Swedish fighter, we haven’t seen nothin’ yet.

Chimaev plans to surpass Khab in in the P4P ranks

The 26-year-old made his Octagon debut on July 15th at UFC Fight Island 1, and cruised his way to a submission win over middleweight John Phillips in round two. Then, at UFC Fight Island 3 this past Saturday, Chimaev rolled through welterweight Rhys McKee and stopped him in round one.

Due to the wrestling and vicious top game of Chimaev, he’s already being compared to Khabib Nurmagomedov. So, when asked about the undefeated champ following his win, Chimaev relayed he plans to match and surpass Khabib’s accomplishments (quotes via MMA Mania).

“I like this guy, this guy is, I think I don’t know, pound for pound number one?” Chimaev said. “Yeah, I think he’s pound for pound number one.

He’s 28 wins? Yeah. But soon … I’m going to be pound for pound number one. I’m gonna be champion. I have eight fights, eight finishes.

I destroyed everybody. I’m going to do this. Next fight also.”

And, while talking about his success to date – Chimaev is 8-0, as well as his goals, the talented wrestler said this.

“Of course it easy for me. I born from this country when I was kid, it was war in my country.

Everyone know Chechnya, like before how they was. I like to fight in the cage, and smash someone, it’s too easy. Too easy. Smash someone. Get money, brother. It’s perfect for me.”

“…I don’t know, but I want to take this belt in one, two years? As soon as possible I’m going to take this. I know it’s not like movie, like Rocky Balboa.

Like he want to fight and get the title shot. I’m going to take this soon.”

Next steps?

It’s going to be really interesting to see what comes next for Chimaev. But it seems clear that the UFC wants to fast-track him into bigger bouts.

Case in point, it’s already being reported that the UFC is hoping to add him to the August 15th, UFC 252 card.

The question is, will the promotion look at an opponent who has some pretty serious wrestling skills of their own? And will Chimaev face an established vet or another rising fighter like McKee?
