The “Dukes of Hazzard” was must-see TV during its run on the small screen from 1979-1985. Now, cancel culture is taking aim at the wholesome family-friendly show because of the Confederate flag on The General Lee. But, the Duke boys, John Schneider and Tom Wopat, spoke out to defend the beloved TV series.
Liberals Target Anything Related To The Confederacy
Confederate statues and flags have been targeted for the last several years but things have intensified following the death of George Floyd. Some Black Lives Matter activists don’t want anything bearing the Confederate flag being shown so “Dukes of Hazzard” is once again being targeted.

TV Land Dropped “The Dukes Of Hazzard”
In 2015, the series was picked up by TV Land to much fanfare. However, the cable network dropped it like a hot potato in the aftermath of a white supremacist committing a mass shooting at a Charleston church.

John Schneider was the blonde heartthrob who played Bo Duke on the series. Recently, the conservative actor has been speaking out passionately on the need to keep the series available for fans.
He’s not about to stop now even though the left’s rhetoric attacks have increased.

“I have never had an African-American come up to me and have any problem with it whatsoever,” John Schneider, who played Bo Duke on the CBS series, tells The Hollywood Reporter. “The whole politically correct generation has gotten way out of hand.”
Schneider’s co-star Tom Wopat, who played Bo’s cousin Luke Duke, acknowledges that “the situation in the country has obviously changed in the last 40 years,” adding that “I feel fortunate to be living in a time when we can address some of the injustices of the past.” But he stresses that “the car is innocent.”
“’Dukes of Hazzard’ was a unifying force,” Schneider adds. “Mom, grandma, everyone wanted to watch it together. But who benefits from division?… ‘The Dukes of Hazzard’ has been shot down, I believe unfairly.”

Confederate Flag On The General Lee Is About Southern Culture
Gy Waldron, who create the series believes it is not racist.
He “wholeheartedly supports the Black Lives Matter movement and its quest to address racism around the world,” but states when “The Dukes Of Hazzard” was filmed, “no one even connected the Confederate flag with slavery. It was simply a part of our Southern culture.”
I don’t know about you but those Duke brothers and rascally Roscoe hold fond family memories for me. And I truly believe those ‘good ol boys’ were truly ‘never meanin’ no harm’.
If you’re a ‘Dukes of Hazzard’ fan like me, you’ll love this duet John Schneider and Tom Wopat. It was the first time the Duke boys ever sang together on television. These two were clearly made to sing the show’s theme song by Waylon Jennings ‘Good Ol’ Boys’.
