Conor McGregor

Conor McGregor is supposedly retired, but following a tweet he made that simply stated “I accept”, talk about what the star’s referring to is making the rounds. For example, many are wondering if McGregor’s referring to a recent call out from Khamzat Chimaev.

McGregor accepts bout with Chimaev?

If you’ve been following Chimaev, since he made history by becoming the first person to win two UFC bouts in ten days, then you know he doesn’t like McGregor. For example, recently Chimaev claimed that in 2018, he went to Ireland to confront (and or “beat” up) McGregor.

Well, since then, Chimaev directed the tweet below to Dana White.

I’m getting bored, please @danawhite give me  @NateDiaz209 @GamebredFighter@TheNotoriousMMA
same night. I can smash all these guys… I’m not cocky guy I’m just confident. I understand if they don’t want to fight me.

Not long after, McGregor tweeted out:

“I accept!”

TMZ saw the tweets and followed up with White. The UFC President confirmed that a bout between Chimaev and McGregor is not in the works. When asked if he thinks it’s possible, White reportedly said “Probably not but who knows?!”

McGregor vs. Chimaev?

At the end of the day, the chances of this bout happening anytime soon are slim and one. Aside from the fact McGregor is apparently retired.

Even if McGregor demanded the UFC set up the fight, the promotion would almost certainly push for him to face say, Jorge Masvidal or Nate Diaz (for the third time). Chimaev is off to a fast start in the UFC, but he’s far from a household name (and does the UFC or McGregor’s team want to run the risk of having him lose to someone mainstream audiences don’t even know?).

There’s also the matter of the COVID-19 pandemic, and the UFC is making nothing from the gate these days, since no fans are attending.
