UFC Vegas 3: Curtis Blaydes & His Wrestling Cruise to Another Win

Alexander Volkov kept battling until the end, but the heavyweight contender had very few answers for the wrestling game of Curtis Blaydes.

Curtis Blaydes promised to showcase his wrestling game against Alexander Volkov, and he did just that at UFC Vegas 3.

Round one

Moments in, Blaydes changed levels and easily took Volkov down. Volkov, however, quickly got back to his feet, but Blaydes dragged him back to his knees. Blaydes fired in knees to Volkov’s thigh along the cage. Volkov tried breaking free, but Blaydes continued to hold the position. Blaydes moved to the back of Volkov and continued to fire in the odd punch.

Round two

Blaydes scored with some big shots early into round two.Not long after, Blaydes shot in and took Volkov to the floor. Volkov quickly got back to his feet, but once again, Blaydes swept him back to the ground. Blaydes worked from within Volkov’s guard, but he didn’t offer too much volume. A little while later, Blaydes tossed down a couple of big elbows, before letting Volkov back up. Right before the round ended, however, Blaydes took him right back down.

Round three

After a few striking exchanges, Blaydes shot in on Volkov, but the latter defended. Blaydes looked for another takedown, but after Volkov initially defended, he was taken to the floor. Volkov started looking for a choke but was unable to secure it. Blaydes fired in a knee to the body as Volkov was against the fence. Late in the round, Volkov briefly worked for a guillotine, before getting back to his feet.

Round four

Volkov fired a front kick moments into the round, but Blaydes countered with a takedown attempt. Volkov managed to stay up, before Blaydes shot in again and pushed him to the fence. Volkov defended but ate a jab, and then Blaydes took him down. Blaydes started working from within Volkov’s guard, and the latter tossed in him some elbows from below. Moments later, referee Herb Dean stood the fight back up.

Volkov pressed forward behind punches, and then he proceeded to take Blaydes down to the floor. As the round ended, Blaydes was bleeding out his mouth.

Round five

Volkov pressed forward to begin round five and planted some punches. Blaydes ate a kick as he changed level, but moments later, he took Volkov down yet again. Volkov managed to work his way back up yet again, and then he pushed Blaydes to the fence. The action returned to the center of the cage, before Blaydes pushed Volkov to the cage. As Blaydes looked for a takedown, Volkov fired in numerous punches from above. Blaydes took Volkov down not long after, however, and worked his way around a triangle choke attempt.

Not surprisingly, Blaydes was awarded the decision win.
