Country music group The Dixie Chicks officially changed their name to The Chicks, seemingly because their old name was politically incorrect in the eyes of the Left. Many Americans are not on board with this push to erase any term from our modern vocabulary where a line can be drawn to slavery. It’s like the 6 degrees of Kevin Bacon but with slavery. To punctuate the slippery nature of this slope, former White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer had the perfect response to the Dixie Chicks new name!
The Chicks, which is comprised of Emily Strayer, Natalie Maines, and Martie Maguire, revealed their new name when it dropped their new single “March March” off their fifth studio album Gaslighter.
“We want to meet this moment,” the band said in a statement on their website. “A sincere and heartfelt thank you goes out to ‘The Chicks’ of [New Zealand] for their gracious gesture in allowing us to share their name. We are honored to co-exist together in the world with these exceptionally talented sisters. Chicks Rock!”
They Faced Pressure To Drop ‘Dixie’
The pressure may have stemmed from an op-ed piece written by Jeremy Helligar and published in Variety titled “After Lady Antebellum, Is It Time for the Dixie Chicks to Rethink Their Name?”
In the article, he wrote that the word “Dixie,” which stems from the Mason-Dixon line that separated slave-owning and free states, is “a celebration of a Southern tradition that is indivisible from Black slaves and those grand plantations where they were forced to toil for free… For many Black people, it conjures a time and a place of bondage. If a ‘Dixie’-loving Southerner today insists the word merely represents a deep appreciation of their homeland, they’re probably white.”
It should be noted that the band initially picked the name Dixie Chicks as a derivation from the Little Feat classic-rock song “Dixie Chicken.”
The Dixie Chicks just changed their name to “The Chicks”.

The group has also changed their name to The Chicks on all of their social media accounts.
Sean Spicer quickly turned the tables on the Dixie Chicks after their big announcement. The former White House Pres Secretary used their own liberal logic against them.

Lady Antebellum Changes Its Name
Recently, the band Lady Antebellum changed its name to Lady A. The band explained that it made the decision to drop the word Antebellum because its associations “weigh down this word to the period of history before the civil war, which includes slavery.”
They added they are “regretful and embarrassed” they did not take the word’s ties into account years ago.

Racial tensions have been at an all-time high in the United States over the past few weeks. Protesting and cultural change runs rampant in the wake of the death of George Floyd.
As Sean Spicer so aptly points out, caving to the demand of these liberal extremists never ends well. It’s a slippery slope and there are no winners.
