Lori Loughlin Olivia Jade Giannulli white privilege

Lori Loughlin’s 20 year-old daughter Olivia Jade Giannulli is on the receiving end of some serious backlash today over an Instagram post in which she pledged to use her “white privilege” to fight racism. After the college admissions scandal, it seems no one wants the literal poster child for white privilege as an ally.

Fox News reported that days after her parents finally plead guilty to charges in the college admissions scandal, Olivia Jade took to Instagram stories to weigh in on the George Floyd tragedy.

While thousands of Americans gather to protest George Floyd’s death at the hands of Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin, the Hollywood darling chose social media as her platform to speak out against racism. Olivia Jade added that white people “need to understand that just ‘not being racist is not enough’ if you hear people saying disrespectful things, correct them.”

Tables Turn On Lori Loughlin’s Daughter Olivia Jade

Unfortunately for Olivia Jade, however, this post has just backfired on her in a big way.

“SHES THE DEFINITION OF WHITE PRIVILEGE SHE CONTRIBUTED TO IT WILLINGLY…her parents cheated her way into a school and only got 2 months in jail..she is not allowed to speak on the matter,” one person tweeted in response, with another adding, “She needs a reality check. So tone deaf!”

“The college admissions scandal contributes to the sense of outrage felt by many who take to the streets and violently protest systemic entitlement, privilege and discrimination, while sweet lil olivia jade drops make-up tutorials like nothing happened. dumb, clueless and tone deaf,” a third user commented.

Olivia Jade Doubles Down On White Privilege

Olivia Jade had written in her original post that her white privilege is something that she is aware of, and she’s hopeful to use it to bring about change.

“If you see something that doesn’t look right… do something!!!!!” Jade wrote. “THIS NEEDS TO BE CHANGED. FOREVER! And as a person who is born into privilege based on my skin color & financial situation I was not always aware that these issues were still so present. And that makes me feel awful. But that also fuels me.”

“Don’t sit there & allow this to continue happening,” she added. “And if someone says something like ‘no one is around that offense’ or ‘it’s a joke’ it should offend ALL of us speak because it’s outright wrong and disgusting that humans talk/treat each other humans THE way we’ve seen.”

“We need to support and stand up and speak and USE OUR WHITE PRIVILEGE TO STOP THIS,” Olivia Jade continued. “We need to stop complaining about the smallest things because the black community are fearful of dying and being oppressed every single day just on the way they look and how they were born. Time to step up and keep making noise because this cannot continue to happen. It’s disgusting.”

Olivia Jade’s Parents Are Going To Prison

The timing couldn’t have been worse for Olivia Jade’s ‘white privilege’ drama. This backlash erupted just after her mother Lori Loughlin and father Mossimo Giannulli’s guilty plea. They plead guilty to charges related to paying $500,000 in bribe money used for their daughters’ admission to the University of Southern California.

Olivia Jade and her sister were indeed admitted to the prestigious university as members of the crew team. Despite the fact neither girl had ever rowed before.

If college admission as a member of a collegiate sports team without actual sports experience doesn’t say ‘privilege’, then I don’t know what does.

Many American see the light sentences negotiated with the couple’s plea as an example of ‘privilege’ at work. Under the terms of their respective deals, Lori Loughlin will likely serve two months in prison. While her husband, Giannulli, is likely to serve five months.

Given her parents have been all over the headlines recently, it might have been smart to sit this one out. Rather than choosing to personally weigh in on the subject of ‘white privilege’.

If Olivia Jade Giannulli wants any chance of relaunching her career as a social media influencer, she’s going to have to do a whole lot better than this.
