liberal activists come for National Anthem The Star-Spangled Banner replace Francis Scott Key

American history and culture is under attack by extreme liberal activists. They are toppling statues, demanding names be changed, and flags be taken down. Last week, they came for Aunt Jemima and Eskimo Pies claiming racism. Now these activists are coming for “The Star-Spangled Banner”, America’s National Anthem.

Activists Attempt To Destroy Legacies

We probably should have seen this coming when Colin Kaepernick spearheaded protests during the National Anthem at NFL games. Things have snowballed recently with protests being all the rage these days.

Just a few days ago, protesters pulled down a statue of Francis Scott Key, who wrote “The Star-Spangled Banner” after witnessing the bombardment of Fort McHenry by British ships during the War of 1812.

These activists continue to judge historical figures by their standards of today. Their standards are so extreme that even today’s moderates are unacceptable to them.

Of course, they are going to attempt to destroy the legacy of people who lived in a completely different environment hundreds of years ago.

Francis Scott Key and our National Anthem are no exception.

Historian Wants Us To Retire “The Star-Spangled Banner”

A Yahoo News article details calling for the replacement of the National Anthem. The fact that the song is about war is a non starter for these liberals.

Historian and scholar Dr. Daniel E. Walker told Yahoo that it’s time to retire the song that has been proudly sung by Americans for generations.

“The 53-year-old in me says, we can’t change things that have existed forever. But then there are these young people who say that America needs to live up to its real creed,” Walker griped. “And so, I do side with the people who say that we should rethink this as the national anthem, because this is about the deep-seated legacy of slavery and white supremacy in America, where we do things over and over and over again that are a slap in the face of people of color and women. We do it first because we knew what we were doing and we wanted to be sexist and racist. And now we do it under the guise of ‘legacy.’”

Slavery isn’t even mentioned in the “The Star-Spangled Banner”, but that doesn’t matter to these extreme liberals. They want history revised.

And, if it was from a time they don’t want to think about, they want that history erased or defamed.

Activists Take Aim At Francis Scott Key

Activist and journalist Kevin Powell takes aim at The Star-Spangled Banner” because of what he perceived to be Francis Scott Key’s legacy.

Powell wants the National Anthem replaced with John Lennon’s popular anthem “Imagine.”

“‘The Star-Spangled Banner was written by Francis Scott Key, who was literally born into a wealthy, slave-holding family in Maryland. He was a very well-to-do lawyer in Washington, D.C., and eventually became very close to President Andrew Jackson, who was the Donald Trump of his time, which means that there was a lot of hate and violence and division,” Powell said.

“At that time, there were attacks on Native Americans and Black folks — both free Black folks and folks who were slaves — and Francis Scott Key was very much a part of that. He was also the brother-in-law of someone who became a Supreme Court justice, Roger Taney, who also had a very hardcore policy around slavery. And so, all of that is problematic.” the extreme Powell continued.

Powell went on to say that singing the National Anthem is a celebration of Francis Scott Key’s life. That simply is not true.

We sing it because we are proud Americans. We have made tremendous progress since our country was founded.

Activist’s Push To Replace National Anthem Points to Bigger Agenda

But there is a much bigger problem here – and Powell’s recommendation points to a more ominous agenda.

Lennon himself was quoted as calling his song “Imagine” a ‘Communist Manifesto’.

According to Wikipedia, “Lennon stated: ‘Imagine’, which says: ‘Imagine that there was no more religion, no more country, no more politics,’ is virtually the Communist Manifesto, even though I’m not particularly a Communist and I do not belong to any movement.'”

So these anti-anthem activists want to replace “The Star-Spangled Banner” about America’s fight for independence with an actual ode to communism.

That says everything you need to know.

“The Star-Spangled Banner” Has A Colorful Legacy

Our beloved anthem has been sung a litany of superstar recording artists including Whitney Houston, Faith Hill, Gladys Knight and many more.

Notably, CNN host Don Lemon chastised seven-time Grammy Award-winner Gladys Knight for daring to sing “The Star-Spangled Banner “in 2019 before Super Bowl LIII.

But the Empress of Soul was having none of it. And she checked Don Lemon accordingly in her response.

“For me, it’s just for me about respect,” Knight said. “I’m just hoping it will be about our country and how we treat each other and being the great country that we are.”

A moving rendition of our anthem still gives so many us of chills. Artists can put his own spin on it by changing up the anthem’s tempo.

In the video below, Marvin Gaye gives it a soulful spin at the 1983 NBA All-Star game.

Black National Anthem

While Powell wants an atheist song for our National Anthem, others who are demanding change are pulling for “Lift Every Voice,” which is considered by some to be the Black National Anthem.

The song was first performed in public to commemorate Abraham Lincoln’s birthday. If it was changed to this, would Colin Kaepernick stand or would be still be embarrassed to be an American?

You can hear Beyoncé sing it in the video below.

Our National Anthem, “The Star-Spangled Banner“, highlights the fighting American spirit that has carried us through many battles.

As we find ourselves under attack from within, this is a time when we need our anthem the most.
