CODY RHODES OFF AEW

AEW To Introduce New Titles

All Elite Wrestling, also known as AEW, has found success by introducing the TNT title, currently held by Cody Rhodes.

Rhodes, who won the belt in a tournament finale, made his first title defense on AEW Dynamite on TNT this past week.

It now appears as if the promotion is looking to introduce at least another championship into the fold.

According to a report by Dave Meltzer, that title would be a six-man belt, as AEW is focusing on putting together several strong three-man teams including The Hardy Party with Matt Hardy, the Death Triangle, Best Friends and Orange Cassidy, The Inner Circle, Elite and Jurassic Express.

First mention of the titles was made during the Chris Jericho Cruise by Kenny Omega earlier this year. Nothing, though, further has been made public by the promotion.

The use of six-man tag championships has not been a trend in pro wrestling. NWA had titles from 1955-1998 for the division and Ring of Honor started a division in 2016 that continues to run to this day.

Mexa Squad, consisting of Bandido, Flamita and Rey Horus are the current holders of the six-man titles in ROH, having won the belts in January from Villain Enterprises.

WCW also had a division in 1991 with the Junkyard Dog, Ricky Morton and Tommy Rich holding the first titles. The belts were deactivated later that year.

Plans For Fyter Fest 2020

AEW's Treatment Of Staff

AEW is moving forward with Fyter Fest 2020, albeit in a much different direction than the first version.

The event will take place over two separate nights, airing on TNT July 1 and July 8.

Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer Radio confirmed that the entire card will be filmed July 1-2 with the first part airing live on TNT. The second will be a tape-delayed broadcast.

“It’s July 1st and 8th. It will be taped July 1st and 2nd. The first show will be live. The second show will not be live,” Meltzer said.

Tony Khan, the president and CEO of AEW, stated on Twitter a special thank you to the fans regarding the event.

“Thank you to all of the great fans who’ve supported our pay-per-view shows and AEW Dynamite every Wednesday night,” Khan wrote. “This one’s on the house. Or these two rather.”

Orignal Plans For Fyter Fest

The first Fyter Fest took place last June. This year, initial plans included taking the event to London, England in June, but that was all changed due to the coronavirus pandemic.

To date, two championship matches have been announced for the event including Jon Moxley defending his world title against top contender Brian Cage with Taz. Also, Kenny Omega and Adam Page put their tag titles on the line against the Best Friends, Chuck and Trent.

Add in the Mike Tyson factor and AEW has an interesting card on their hands.
