5 WWE Babyfaces who started as heels

Not all of the successful babyfaces in WWE history actually start out as faces, some start out as as heels. Here are the most successful WWE superstars who began their career as the villain.

Drew McIntyre

Drew McIntyre started as a big heel

One of the most successful WWE superstars on Raw actually began as a villain. Yes, we are talking about none other than Drew McIntyre!

Drew McIntyre debuted as a heel two times. The first time he came out as Vince McMahon’s chosen one. Then, he was Dolph Ziggler’s sidekick for his second main roster debut.

While Drew remained on the heel list for a while, things turned for him when he took on Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania 36. It instantly transformed him into the cheeky babyface we know today. Albeit a babyface with a hell of a Claymore Kick.

Roman Reigns

While it may be hard to think about Roman Reigns as anything else but the company’s biggest babyface, he started as one of the most prominent members of a heel NXT faction.

The Shield made their debut as a heel faction in 2012. They put the entire main roster on notice, which would make all three men sturdy fan favorites.

For The Shield, turned from heel to babyface in the lead up to WrestleMania XXX.. Once again, it was fan support that turned them into the heroes rather than the villains.

Braun Strowman

Braun Strowman debuted as a member of the Wyatt Family

While most of you now remember Braun Strowman as the big and loveable Monster Among Men, he was not always a big and cuddly bear!

Braun Strowman debuted as a member of The Wyatt Family. The Wyatt Family was already an established faction by the time of his debut, but Strowman would become their secret weapon.

With The Wyatt Family breaking up, Strowman eventually found himself as a fan favorite with the words “Get These Hands.” Once again, fan support ensured his transformation as one of the company’s scariest babyfaces.

Liv Morgan

Debuting on the main roster as a member of The Riott Squad, Liv Morgan always seemed a little out of place in the faction. The reason why I say that is her popularity as a heel.

While Liv remained in the background somewhat within The Riott Squad, things would change when the faction broke up. Soon, the WWE gave her a new gimmick, after which she came out as a face.

Kevin Owens

Kevin Owens Debut

There are many similarities between Kevin Owens and Stone Cold Steve Austin, which are not limited to Kevin’s use of Stone Cold’s finisher.

Like Stone Cold Steve Austin, Kevin Owens made his debut as a heel character. However, his heel character would resound with the WWE very quickly, as he beat John Cena.

While the WWE hoped to get lots of boos for Owens and cheers for Cena, Owens got incredibly popular in minimal time. Subsequently, Owens constantly switched between face and heel personas.

After countless heel and face switches, Owens turned face again by taking on The Monday Night Messiah Seth Rollins. His gimmick is quite reminiscent of Stone Cold Steve Austin, and it seems to be working for the WWE universe!
