Bi Nguyen

ONE Championship contender Bi Nguyen has been able to stay sharp while waiting out the coronavirus pandemic.

Nguyen, a 30-year-old who competes in the atomweight division, has spent the past year competing for the promotion. She owns a win over Dwi Ani Retno Wulan around a pair of tough decision losses.

“I’ve been doing the best I can,” Nguyen told FightLine during an exclusive interview. “Luckily where I am in Houston our parks remained open. That has helped my mental and physical health. I’ve really worked on my conditioning during this time.”

Following a standout amateur career, Nguyen turned pro in 2016. She eventually made her way to ONE and has turned her attention to rising through the ranks.

Born in Vietnam, Nguyen has called the United States home since she was a young child. She first took up Muay Thai to learn self-defense and improve her confidence before transitioning into competitive fighting.

“I’m wagering waiting for a call from ONE Championship matchmakers,” Nguyen said. “Whenever. Wherever. Whoever. I am in.”

The time off has allowed Nguyen to continue planning for her own future – both in terms of short- and long-term.

“I’ve had more time to think about how well I’m planning for the future,” she said. “Especially after my fighting career and how I can better those plans.”

As for when things clear up and ONE Championship returns to live action, Nguyen believes things will be similar in many instances.

“The only difference may be the closed events, but it will just be another thrilling competition for me,” Nguyen said. “I don’t think it’ll be any different for me competing.”
