Ellen DeGeneres

Over the past few weeks, numerous reports have come out claiming that well-known talk show host Ellen DeGeneres isn’t nearly as nice behind the scenes as her public persona suggests. Now, after yet another former staffer came forward to say that the stories of her “rude” behavior are “true,” DeGeneres is said to be at her breaking point.

Ellen DeGeneres Nears Her Breaking Point

“Ellen is at the end of her rope,” a source told US Weekly. “She thought this was all just sour grapes from a few haters. But it’s not a passing thing — the hits just keep coming.”

It all started last month, when Variety reported about claims from DeGeneres’ crew that they were left in the dark about pay and their employment status for weeks after production of her show shut down due to coronavirus.

While they were left in the dark, she joked that quarantining in her Los Angeles, Calif., mansion was similar to living in jail which drew backlash for the talk show host.

Then, a Twitter thread was started by podcaster Kevin T. Porter branding DeGeneres as “one of the meanest people.”

The U.K. Sun reported that Porter asked social media users to share their horror stories about DeGeneres, saying he would donate money for every “real” response he got.

Comedian Chris Farah responded to the thread by claiming that she had gotten fired from her job because of DeGeneres.

“I worked @RealFoodDaily, served her & [Portia de Rossi] at brunch. She wrote a letter to the owner & complained about my chipped nail polish,” Farah claimed. “Not that it was on her plate but just that it was on my hand. I had worked till closing the night before & this was next morn, almost got me fired.”

TV writer Benjamin Siemon chimed in to say that DeGeneres is allegedly notorious for not treating her staff well on set.

“She has a ‘sensitive nose’ so everyone must chew gum from a bowl outside her office before talking to her and if she thinks you smell that day you have to go home and shower,” he said.

Experts have described these allegations as devastating to the brand of DeGeneres, who famously tells her viewers to “be kind” to one another at the end of every show.

“The behavior that’s been revealed about Ellen is rat poison to the Ellen DeGeneres brand,” brand expert Eric Schiffer, chairman of Reputation Management Consultants, told Fox News.

“When you have a brand like Ellen’s leak information that is 180 degrees different than this facade she’s been painting, it creates a dumpster fire on her image and it’s like watching the Hindenburg.”

DeGeneres Struggles With The Backlash

A source close to DeGeneres said that as this public relations disaster worsens for her, she has been leaning on her wife Portia de Rossi more than ever.

“Ellen’s so grateful to have Portia in her life as a soulmate and a sounding board, but that doesn’t mean it’s been easy,” the source said. “Their home life is strained right now. … Her real friends never ask her to be funny or tell jokes. They accept her as is.”

In the end, despite everything that has happened in the past few weeks, this source doesn’t think DeGeneres is going anywhere anytime soon.

“Ellen’s been in our homes for so long, it’ll take a lot more than a bodyguard and a blogger to change how people feel about her,” the insider said. “Her best response is just being happy Ellen on the show every day.”
