Dolly Parton is known for many things. Her songs, her kindness and generosity, her figure, and especially her big hair. But few people have seen Dolly without makeup or one of her stunning wigs. So it’s a rare thing to get a behind-the-scenes peek at Dolly Parton’s natural hair.
The Country legend isn’t shy about the fact that she wears wigs. She says they allow her to always have a good hair day. There isn’t much concern about having messy hair when you just put a wig on. And her big hair is part of her brand. She won’t apologize for that!
This isn’t a fad for Dolly, but a lifetime devotion to having the biggest hair in the room. Check out her 1965 beehive in the picture below. The then 21-year-old’s hair defied the laws of gravity. But, there was a reason for that.
Parton is always honest. When asked how long it took to get such an enormous hairstyle, she replied, “I don’t know! I wasn’t there! Honey, that’s a wig!”
“I don’t always wear [wigs] in my daily life, but I always still pouf up my hair. I still like to have that flashy hair,” Parton said.
“When I’m around home, I wear my little scrunchies, but I always put on some makeup and fix my own hair as cute as I can fix it. Wigs are just so handy. I’m so busy, and I have so many choices. I never have a bad hair day, and that’s a good thing.”
Many of us put a lot of pressure on ourselves to look good.
Even a country superstar like The Queen of Nashville feels that pressure. So much so that you’ll never catch Dolly Parton without her makeup on.

Last fall, it was announced that Dolly will have a line of synthetic wigs with IMG. It’s her dream to have a fashion empire that includes clothes, accessories, and wigs. And it’s a good time to get into the business, as the global market for wigs is expected to grow to over $13 billion dollars by 2026!
For the “Jolene” singer, her look is her brand. So that why’s you can count on Dolly Parton to always be dolled up with perfect hair and makeup.
In fact, it’s so rare to see Dolly without a wig that you have to go back into a time machine to get a glimpse of her natural hair.
