Singer Jon Steingard Christian songs loses faith in God

Popular Christian singer Jon Steingard just gave his fans the shock of their lives this week when he announced that he has lost his faith and no longer believes in God.

Jon Steingard No Longer Believes In God

Fox News reported that Jon Steingard, the frontman for the band Hawk Nelson, made this surprising announcement in a lengthy Instagram post a few days ago.

“I’ve been terrified to post this for a while– but it feels like it’s time for me to be honest,” the singer wrote. “After growing up in a Christian home, being a pastor’s kid, playing and singing in a Christian band, and having the word ‘Christian’ in front of most of the things in my life — I am now finding that I no longer believe in God.”

Jon Steingard Stops Singing Christian Songs After Losing Faith

Back in 2012, Steingard switched from being the band’s guitarist to lead vocalist.

It was then that the group shifted from fast-paced punk rock to more contemporary Christian music. Putting out hit songs like “Drops In The Ocean.”

Steingard explained that he could “no longer sing” these religious songs in good conscience.

“This is not a post I ever thought that I would write, but now I feel like I really need to,” Steingard wrote in his post. He added that this was not a decision he made quickly, as he spent quite some time asking questions about God, the Bible, and his upbringing in a Christian home.

He made sure to add that he is leaving the door open to returning to Christianity at some point in the future.

“I’m open to the idea that God is there. I’d prefer if he was,” Steingard said. “I suspect if he is there, he is very different than what I was taught.”

Support During His Crisis Of Faith

Steingard was likely nervous to post this confession. But he was met with compassion not backlash. As the singer received a flood of support from other prominent figures in the Christian music community.

“Man I love that you shared this. You know I’m always around to talk about our belief in God or lack thereof. Love you and always will,” Tenth Avenue North singer Mike Donehey.

Sanctus Real lead singer Matt Hammitt added, “To echo so many others here, I have nothing but love in my heart for your old friend.”

“Love you bro. Always will,” said Jeremy Camp, whose story was the basis of the Christian movie I Still Believe.

It’s always unfortunate to see someone abandon their Christian faith. But it’s important to remember that we are all on different paths in life.

And sometimes you have to be lost before you can be found.

Hopefully, Jon Steingard will keep his heart open to Christianity, and find his way back to God.
