Fans Go Wild When Alex Trebek Hints At His ‘Jeopardy!’ Successor

Fans of the beloved game show “Jeopardy!” are up in arms today after longtime host Alex Trebek presumably dropped a huge hint as to who will be his successor on last night’s show.

Did Alex Trebek Drop A Hint About His ‘Jeopardy! Successor?

Cheatsheet reported that during Monday night’s show, CNBC’s David Faber acted as a guest clue-reader via video for one of the ‘Jeopardy!’ categories.

Once the category was done, Trebek said, “Thank you David! He really is exceptional at reading clues, don’t you think?”

Social media immediately exploded, with many viewers speculating that Trebek was trying to hint that Faber would be his successor.

“I think Alex Trebek just told us who his replacement will be…..” one viewer tweeted, with another viewer adding, “I was hoping for Conan O’Brien .. to be replaced a week later by Alex Trebek.”

Faber has been with CNBC since 1993 and competed on “Jeopardy!” back in 2012, when he managed to win the show and bring home $50,000 for charity.

He clearly has fond memories of the game show, so it would not be surprising if he was quick to say “yes,” should he be offered the hosting gig.

Ken Jennings Gives Trebek Update

This successor chatter comes right on the heels of legendary “Jeopardy!” contestant Ken Jennings’ update on how the 79-year-old host is doing amidst the coronavirus pandemic.

“I just saw Alex pretty recently when we were promoting the recent ‘Jeopardy’ tournament and he was really hanging in there well,” he told Fox News.

“‘Jeopardy’ has production shut down for the pandemic and he is still itching to get back to work. That’s a guy who loves his job and I think that’s what’s keeping him healthy and alive at this point. I hope he hosts ‘Jeopardy’ forever.”

Jennings went on to point out that Trebek has to be especially careful given the fact that he is still battling pancreatic cancer.

“I haven’t talked to him about the pandemic but I know that he’s doing chemotherapy so his immune system is shot and he’s really taking that seriously,” Jennings explained.

“And that’s one of the reasons why you won’t be seeing ‘Jeopardy’ with a studio audience anytime soon even when it comes back because they’re very protective of Alex’s health and that’s how it should be. We’ve got got to be careful in these times.”

Alex Trebek Celebrates Beating One Year Survival Mark

Back in March, Trebek publicly celebrated beating the one-year survival mark since his cancer diagnosis.

“The one year survival rate for stage four pancreatic cancer patients is 18 percent,” Trebek said at the time. “I’m very happy to report that I have just reached that marker.”

We’re so glad that Trebek is well enough to continue his hosting duties for now. While keeping us on our collective toes.

The game show certainly would not be the same without its iconic host.

So let’s hope that Alex Trebek will still be hosting ‘Jeopardy!’ for many years to come.

James Conrad

James Conrad’s passion for politics is only overshadowed by his longstanding interest in Hollywood. His unique perspective as a gay conservative fuels him to challenge celebrity views and those who think they have a right to tell anyone how to think or vote. James proudly wields his minority point of view to combat identity politics and cut through his typecast. Fun fact: James’ guilty pleasure is the British royal family.
