It looks like Justin Gaethje is going to battle Tony Ferguson in the new headliner for UFC 249, and Gaethje’s admitted he’s scared, and yet pumped up.

Gaethje posts comment following news of UFC 249 headliner

On Monday, UFC President Dana White announced that Ferguson and Gaethje have agreed to battle for an interim lightweight title, at UFC 249. The location for the embattled card, however, has yet to be announced.

Following that news, Gaethje shared out this statement via Twitter (warning: graphic language).

#forthepeople I’m terrified and I f-cken love it. #ufc

Recent talk of Ferguson vs. Gaethje

After Khabib Nurmagomedov confirmed that he’s stranded in Russia, due to a travel ban in the country as a result of the coronavirus, it was reported Gaethje could step-up to face “El Cucuy”.

Gaethje has won three straight, he’s ranked #4 in the lightweight division, and he’s also in the U.S.

Since Gaethje wasn’t booked for a fight prior and because of the pandemic, however, it’s likely he hasn’t been training full tilt.

Both Gaethje (21-2) and Ferguson (25-3) are coming off wins over Donald Cerrone. Ferguson recorded a TKO victory against “Cowboy”, due to doctor stoppage, last June.

Gaethje, on the other hand, finished Cerrone in the opening round of their September clash.

As this is being written, no other bouts have been confirmed yet for UFC 249.
