The popular daytime host is receiving tons of backlash today after one of her quarantine jokes fell flat while livestreaming “Ellen” from her living room. During the segment, Ellen DeGeneres compared being isolated in her Los Angeles mansion to being “in jail”.
Ellen DeGeneres made the controversial comment while filming her talk show “Ellen” from her Beverly Hills home. Her luxurious home which happens to boast five bedrooms and twelve bathrooms.
“Today I am filming this in my living room because it has the best light and sound and all the other rooms in my house are filled with toilet paper,” DeGeneres said, adding that life in self-isolation isn’t all bad because it gives her the chance to spend more time with her wife, Portia de Rossi.
I suppose with so many bathrooms that Ellen and Portia would need to stockpile toilet paper.
“Portia and I have been quarantining for three weeks now and it’s nice actually because we get to spend time together and talk and get to know each other,” she said. “Did you know that she was Australian?”
Ellen simply could not resist the temptation to feel sorry for herself despite the fact that she lives in the lap of luxury.
“This is like being in jail,” she said. “Mostly because I’ve been wearing the same clothes for 10 days and everyone in here is gay.”
Social media users immediately fired back at Ellen. Everyone quick to point out that it’s hard to feel sorry for her when she is living the high life.
“What a great look for Ellen as thousands of people sit in actual jail cells just hoping for the best without soap and basic protections,” one social media user commented, with another adding, “Ellen you quarantining in your mansion in designer sweats is nothing like prison.”
“Ellen really is the worst,” a third user simply wrote, with a fourth adding, “I’d almost assume that Ellen’s stupid “everyone in jail is gay” joke would be nixed in a normal filming situation but she’s always been awful.”

Ellen did go on to express sympathy for those who have been negatively impacted by self isolation.
“I think that a lot of people out there need words of encouragement and that’s what I want to do,” she said. “I want to spread light where there’s shade. I want to bring a glow where it’s gloomy. I want to stick a candle where the sun doesn’t shine.”
While this last part is a nice sentiment, it does not change the fact that Ellen DeGeneres comparing her cushy mansion life to being in prison is a prime example of a Hollywood star losing all touch with reality.
This is exactly why most working Americans resent celebrities. We are sick and tired of the spoon-fed elite lecturing us about politics and how to live.
