Plans for the UFC to hold an event in San Diego in May are no longer, as the California State Athletic Commission has shut down all combat sports through the month.

The decision was made in regards to the continuing spread of COVID-19, also known as the novel coronavirus.

“The Commission didn’t take this decision lightly and understands the potential economic loss to promoters and the industry of combative sports,” the CSAC statement said in a statement to ESPN. “We had to weigh the best interest of our fighters and the community around us.”

Bellator MMA previously announced that they have postponed three planned cards for the month of May.

The UFC, however, has yet to do the same. Instead, they are moving forward with UFC 249 this month, though a location has yet to be determined.

Dustin Poirier and Dan Hooker are the planned main event for the card announced in May.
