Megan Anderson took a big step towards a shot at the UFC’s 145 title on Saturday, by bombing out Norma Dumont Viana. But, since Felicia Spencer also scored a big win at UFC Norfolk, the former Invicta champ understands a showdown with Amanda Nunes might not materialize.

Anderson comments on title shot prospects

On Saturday, the Australian fighter was fighting for the first time since October, when Anderson submitted Zarah Fairn dos Santos. After defending takedown attempts from Dumont a few minutes in, Anderson sent the Brazilian to the deck with a massive right and that was that.

Since Anderson has long been one of the top female featherweights, afterward, she was asked about the possibility that the victory could deliver a title shot. Here’s some of what the 30-year-old had to say (quotes via MMA Junkie):

“I’m the only one that’s on a win streak,” Anderson said. “I feel like I put my name on the list, particularly with such a great knockout. The UFC is going to do what the UFC wants to do. If they give it to Felicia, I think she’s an incredible competitor. I wouldn’t be surprised if they give it to her. If that’s the case, I’d love to fight again.”

“The UFC is going to Perth, so I’d love to fight in Australia. If they come back to Kansas City, that’d be awesome. I’d love to be able to put on a performance (there). I’ve done Australia in the UFC and I’d love to be able to put on a performance in front of my adopted home of Kansas City. That’d be cool, too – if I’m not given the opportunity to fight for the title.”

It will be interesting to see what the UFC does here. Spencer also scored an impressive win on Saturday by grounding-and-pounding out Zarah Fairn. She also holds a win over Anderson.

But, Anderson’s right in that she’s won two in a row, while Spencer is one fight removed from a loss to Cris “Cyborg”.

Nunes is down to fight either Spencer or Anderson

And what does the champ-champ Nunes think? During UFC Norfolk, the Brazilian star tweeted out this:

“I like both winners tonight,” Nunes said. “Now it’s up to Dana White. I’m ready for either.”

Lately, there’s been reports that the UFC is looking at having Nunes defend the 145 tite on May 9th, at UFC 250 in Sao Paulo. Fellow Brazilian star, Jose Aldo, is scheduled to fight bantamweight champ Henry Cejudo at the event.

Nunes is coming off a decision win over Germaine de Randamie in December, in which she defended the 135 title.
