It was far from exciting, but Israel Adesanya was able to best Yoel Romero at UFC 248 Saturday night.
“The Last Stylebender” controlled the action, leaving the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas with the middleweight title around his waist.
All three judges scored it in his favor 48-47, 48-47, 49-46.
The two exchanged very little offense over the first two rounds and 10 minutes, with Romero getting the better of what exchanges did go down.
Adesanya continued to buck the trend of typical walkouts, instead opting for another show.
After 25 minutes of back-and-forth action, Zhang Weili bested Joanna Jedrzejczyk, defending her strawweight title in the co-main event.
Both fighters were left bruised and battered after the bout.
There was plenty of heat in the build, the former champion did her best to try and intimidate the new titleholder. In the end, though, Weili had her first title defense.
Beneil Darish left the announce team including Daniel Cormier and Joe Rogan up in arms with his knockout of Drakker Klose.
Neil Magny claimed a decision over Li Jingliang and Alex Oliveira topped Max Griffin via split decision in welterweight action.
On the prelims, Sean O’Malley made a triumphant return, flooring Jose Alberto Quinonez. O’Malley landed with a head-kick and finished his bantamweight foe in the first round.
Mark Madsen claimed a decision with Rodolfo Vieira and Gerald Meerschaert each winning via submission.
Both Giga Chikadze and Danaa Batgerel earned wins on the early prelims.
