Darren Till likely needs to defeat another top middleweight contender or two before he crosses paths with Israel Adesanya. But, if the former welterweight is able to secure a bout with the UFC’s middleweight champ, Till believes he’ll be too much for “The Last Stylebender”.

Till makes case for why he’d beat Adesanya

The 27-year-old Till made his much and long-discussed, middleweight debut last November against Kelvin Gastelum, and he emerged with the split decision win. Following the pivotal victory, which ended a two-fight losing skid for Till, the UFC tried to match him up against Jared Cannonier at UFC 248. But, visa issues for Till, and then a pectoral injury Cannonier incurred, punted the bout.

As it stands right now, it’s not clear who and when Till will fight next. But, while talking to Michael Bisping recently during his “Believe You Me” podcast, Till weighed-in on how he’d do against Adesanya (quotes via BJ Penn.com).

“I feel like at welterweight, I was just so drained. It got to a point where it was just draining my whole body, my brain and everything. I feel now, with this little bit of an improved mindset [I already had a strong one] and healthier at middleweight. I think I’ll just be too much for Stylebender.

“I think I’ve got too much power, and I think I’ll be technically standing up too much for him. I really do, he’s not taking me down,” he continued. “And you know, I’ve got this mentality when you take me down I’m getting back up.”

Now, there’s no question that a lot of people would love to see Till and Adesanya fight, on account of the striking abilities of both men. But, all signs point to Adesanya fighting Paulo Costa next, and since Till is 1-2 in his last three bouts, he likely needs to score another win before locking up a title shot.

Till’s thoughts on Adesanya’s win over Yoel Romero

And what did Till think of Adesanya’s victory over Romero at UFC 248? In a fight that was widely panned due to its inactivity and lack of memorable exchanges?

“You know what mate, yeah I’m just going to come out and say it, it was a sh*t fight. But I’ve been in them myself, stalemate. I don’t think Yoel and “Stylebender” were the right match for each other, the way that fight was looking.

“You could say Stylebender looked scared and you could say Yoel was doing some stupid things- which he was. You know what mate, it was just a snoozer. It just didn’t do anything for the fans, didn’t do anything for me. But then, Stylebender’s been in wars and so has Yoel so you can’t really hate on them for one fight, but, it was a sh*t fight.”

Yup. That certainly seems like the consensus opinion.
