Colby Covington

Colby Covington has been at odds and even worse with some of his teammates at American Top Team, including Dustin Poirier. But, recently the controversial fighter apologized to Poirier for getting “out of line” in an interview. In addition, “Chaos” reported that his beef with Poirier has been settled.

Covington apologizes to Poirier

Covington made Poirier’s enemy list after he picked Khabib Nurmagomedov to beat him last September, and the two also traded words over Colby’s issues with Jorge Masvidal, another ATT member. At one point, Poirier warned Covington if he saw him at the ATT gym, there was going to be a problem.

Well, on Monday, Covington did an interview with ESPN, and he reportedly said there would be no issues with Poirier at the gym. But, “Chaos” also apparently made a remark about Poirier running, if he saw Covington in the street.

Following that comment, Covington issued the following apology to the former interim lightweight champ (quotes via MMA Junkie).

“I want to make a little apology; I got out of line yesterday,” Covington said. “I can be a bigger man and admit when I’m wrong, and I broke a promise of Dan Lambert, and I feel extremely ashamed of myself doing that. I thought that – you know I was caught in the moment, and I got caught off guard with a question yesterday when asked about Dustin Poirier, and I kind of regret it. I wish I didn’t go so hard on him.

“He’s a teammate, he’s a friend now, we have no personal beef anymore. It’s just business, and everything needs to keep calm and good at American Top Team, and I don’t want anymore issues with that. I just want to move on. He’s a different weight class, and I’m going to focus on what’s important and what’s ahead of me and that’s either ‘Marty Fakenewsman,’ ‘Journeyman’ Jorge Masvidal or ‘Tyquil’ Woodley.”

Covington also posts apology on Instagram

In addition, Covington also took to Instagram to issue an apology to Poirier.

Made a deal to keep it civil with @dustinpoirier and broke it in an interview yesterday. I’m a man of my word and I apologize for the mistake.

So, it will be interesting to see if this lasts. Poirier is also friends with Masvidal, so, you have to wonder if there could be some tension between “The Diamond” and Covington moving forward.
