Jan Blachowicz

Jan Blachowicz will need to avenge his 2015 loss to Corey Anderson first. But, if the middleweight contender scores a win at UFC Rio Rancho this Saturday, Blachowicz says he has the recipe to take out Jon Jones.

Blachowicz knows he has work to do first…but

The Polish middleweight contender has been booked to fight Anderson this Saturday, after scoring back-to-back wins over Thiago Santos and “Jacare” Souza. Since the 36-year-old vet has gone 4-1 in his last five fights, Blachowicz isn’t too far out from a title shot.

Well, during a recent interview with BJ Penn.com, Blachowicz was asked about the possibility of facing Jones, and he said this:

“I don’t want to talk about Jon Jones right now because I’m focused on Corey. But, I have something for Jon Jones and I know how I can beat him and I’d be the first person to stop him,” he said. “First, I have to beat Corey Anderson.”

“Win against Corey, win the title and defend the title at the end of the year. That is the perfect 2020 for me.”

How about that? Now, Jones’ supporters and likely others might scoff at Blachowicz’s contention here. But, it’s worth noting that Blachowicz has been fighting top tier fighters for years now, and he’s demonstrated he’s a threat on the feet and on the ground.

Beating Anderson

As Blachowicz noted, he needs to by Anderson first, and that probably won’t be easy. The latter is riding a four fight winning streak and he’s also coming off a stoppage win over Johnny Walker. Not only that, Anderson beat Jan by unanimous decision back in 2015.

But, while outlining why he believes things will be different this time around, Blachowicz said this:

“I’m much better now than the first time I fought him. He got me a good time when we fought first. I’ve proven that I’m a better fighter and I can’t wait to show it. I’m much better at wrestling and grappling. When someone takes me down, I know what to do to get up. Even if Anderson takes me down, I’ll be back on my feet. He has to be ready for that.”

“Every fight starts standing and his striking has gotten better. He knocked out Walker so I think he has started to believe in his boxing so maybe he will be able to stand,” he said. “But, I think after three or four minutes and after I hit him he will start to be a wrestler again. I expect that but I am ready for it.”

It’s going to be really interesting to see how this fight plays out. There’s a lot riding on the outcome, no question.
