UFC Rio Rancho: Jon Jones Takes Poke at Corey Anderson Following Loss, Discusses Possibility of Jan Blachowicz Fight

Corey Anderson has been driving for a fight with Jon Jones for a while now and let it be known that he planned to end “Bones'” reign as champ. So, following Anderson’s devastating loss last night at UFC Rio Rancho, Jones took a poke at the 205 contender.

Jones says Anderson learned a “valuable lesson”

After Anderson took out Johnny Walker in November the noted wrestler drove for a fight with Jones hard. Following Jones’ controversial win over Dominick Reyes last weekend, Anderson said he was glad the champ won, so he could be the one to “dethrone” the champ.

Well, that fight’s not going to happen anytime soon, as Anderson was knocked out by Jan Blachowicz last night in the headliner of UFC Rio Rancho. Jones was on hand at the fight, and after the card, he had this to say about Anderson (quote via MMA Junkie):

“It was an awesome fight. I thought Jan Blachowicz did an awesome job, his boxing looked great. Corey seemed slow tonight. It seemed like something wasn’t clicking there. He seemed slower and more hesitant on his takedowns. Honestly, I think he was more worried about fighting me than Jan Blachowicz, and he learned a valuable lesson on what happens when you look past opponents.”

Was Anderson looking past Blachowicz? Who he defeated back in 2015? It’s possible. Although, prior to the bout Anderson insisted he was focused on the dangerous contender and that he was viewing it as championship fight.

Jones vs. Blachowicz?

Moments after Blachowicz finished Anderson, he ran to the Octagon fence to call out Jones. While talking to the media, the 36 year-old continued to drive for a title shot and said he’ll wait out for one, if need be.

While it was a huge win for Blachowicz, and his third straight, lately all the talk has been about Jones – Reyes 2. Due to the fact a lot of people scored last Saturday’s fight for Reyes, there’s been widespread calls for a rematch.

So, does Jones see a fight with Blachowicz next? While discussing that possibility, “Bones said this:

“It’s something that I definitely consider, but in order for a Dominick Reyes rematch to happen it just needs to take a few meetings with the UFC to make that happen,” Jones said. “But if we don’t rematch, I’m fine with that, too. I think I won the fight, definitely won Rounds 3, 4, 5. And you know, a lot of you are giving the (judge Joe Soliz) a lot of slack saying I won 2, 3, 4, 5. I can see how he can give me 2, 3, 4, 5, but 3, 4, 5 I stand by.”

“I could totally see the UFC matching us up with each other,” Jones said while speaking with  “What better way to make a claim for the title than to get a knockout like that. I got a feeling the UFC’s gonna be giving me a call real soon.”

It will be interesting to see what happens here. But, you would think if the UFC can make a deal for Jones – Reyes 2, they’ll move forward with that, since it’s very likely the bigger fight.
