Although Corey Anderson’s title shot campaign was viciously halted by Jan Blachowicz at UFC Rio Rancho, the light-heavyweight’s vowing he’ll be back in the championship race.
The talented wrestler faced Blachowicz in the main event of Saturday’s card, which marked the second time the light-heavyweights have fought. When the two battled in 2015, Anderson emerged from the fight with a decision win.
This time around, however, Blachowicz avenged his defeat in devastating fashion, as he KO’d Anderson with a couple of pounding punches in round one. Following the critical loss, Anderson shared out this statement:
There’s no denying that last night’s loss was a big setback for Anderson. If he had won, and if he had done so in impressive fashion, folks would be talking about him possibly facing Jones next, instead of Dominick Reyes. But, when you consider that Anderson is only 30, and that he has top-tier wrestling and improving striking, it would be silly to write him off as a title contender.
That said, putting together a sizeable winning streak against top contenders won’t be easy. It will be interesting to see who Anderson faces next, and whether he can get back on track.
