For a little while now, there were plenty of signs the UFC was going to hand Jose Aldo a title shot, despite the fact he lost his bantamweight debut to Marlon Moraes. Well, now that a fight between Aldo and the champ Henry Cejudo has been officially announced, some bantamweights have voiced their displeasure.

Aldo to challenge Cejudo at UFC 250

Aldo (28-6) made his bantamweight debut against the aforementioned Moraes at UFC 245 in December. Although a lot of people, including Dana White and Cejudo scored it for the former featherweight champ, Moraes walked away with the split decision win.

After the bout, Cejudo drove for a fight with Aldo, via the argument the star should have been awarded the bout. White said he was interested in the match-up, and on Monday, it was confirmed the two will fight at UFC 250.

Some bantamweights aren’t on board

Well, as many likely expected would be the case, it wasn’t long before a couple of bantamweight contenders blasted the news.

Aljamain Sterling, who is knocking on the title shot door, tweeted out this:

The fight that no one asked for and that nobody wanted to see!

Rising contender, Petr Yan, shared out this:

“This clown choosing Aldo because I don’t speak perfect English . Since when Jose is the fluent speaker? What kind of logic is that? Henry knows he is not a draw and he is unsecured. In his head he already lost the fight to me. @ufc give me someone who is confident in himself!”

Meanwhile, Marlon Vera acknowledged that he understands why the UFC has gone this direction, on account of the fact it’s likely the biggest bout the promotion can make right now at 135. At the same time, Vera seems to believe the bout shouldn’t be happening from a meritocratic perspective:

The ufc just piss all over the top 5 BW division booking Aldo&cejudo guess what good job aldo have the name at the end of the day. That top5 very hard to sell they can fight tho but no good for business, and this is why I love this game u have to throw urselve to the fire 2 make it

Whether the bout should be happening or not, it’s a very intriguing match-up. Aldo has always had great wrestling defense and against Cejudo, he’ll have a reach advantage. He also could very well be the bigger man on fight night.
