Teo Bugbee at the New York Times gives the film a fresh score. He writes, “A popular manga series gets a worthy film installment with “My Hero Academia: Heroes Rising,” an exhilarating animation that frames heroism as an act of community.”

Phil Hoad at The Guardian gives the movie a 2 out of 5. He writes, “The panoply of powers begin to seem interchangeable, the character arcs dim.”

Miranda Sanchez at IGN Movies gives the film an 8 out of 10. She writes, “Heroes Rising is just one awesome explosion of action after another. It doesn’t quite nail the landing on its biggest moment and the villain is a bit boring, but that doesn’t take too much away from the excitement.”

Sarah Cartland at Caution Spoilers gives the movie a 3.5 out of 5. She writes, “Warm-hearted, vividly realised and gloriously exciting, Heroes Rising is understandable even if you know nothing of this world. (I can tell you that with confidence as I am that person.)”

Jeffrey Lyles at Lyles’ Movie Files gives the movie a 9.5 out of 10. He writes, “While it may not end 2020 as the best superhero film of the year, it definitely is going to make the rest of the competition step up its game.”

Toussaint Egan at Paste Magazine gives the movie a 7.1 out of 10. He writes, “Heroes Rising feels like an hour-long filler episode capped by an exhilarating 20-minute spectacle that’s as impressive as it is ultimately inconsequential, and maybe that’s enough for fans of the anime.”

Rendy Jones at Rendy Reviews gives the movie a 4 out of 5. He writes, “The ultimate MHA movie you’ve been waiting for. All the elements that you know and love from the series are present, delivering a fun, frenetic rollercoaster ride throughout.”
