Well, for now at least, Justin Gaethje vs. Conor McGregor appears off the table.
Despite reports that were circulating centering around a summer meeting between the two contenders, Ali Abdelaziz – the manager for Gaethje – halted the discussion.
“This rumor about (Gaethje) fighting (McGregor) is absolutely false,” he posted on Twitter. “He had the opportunity to fight him already instead of (Donald Cerrone) but he didn’t.
“Justin is the number one contender and like Khabib said. Conor needs to win 10 fights.”
McGregor returned to action earlier this year, stopping Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone in the main event. Gaethje, meanwhile, also stopped Cerrone in his last bout, which came in September.
Nurmagomedov, the reigning UFC lightweight champion, is scheduled to defend his belt against Tony Ferguson.
