Jon Jones

If you thought Jon Jones was going to fade away from the spotlight for a bit, following his controversial win over Dominick Reyes at UFC 247, think again. The highly regarded fighter is continuing to push a counter-narrative that Reyes’ performance, and not the judges, are why the challenger failed to end his reign.

Jones says blame Reyes’ conditioning coach and not the judges

Ever since Saturday’s bout, there’s been widespread discussion and debate about who won the UFC 247 headliner. It seems like the consensus is that Reyes won the first three round, and therefore, he should have been awarded the fight. But, people in the know also understand that it was a tightly contested bout, and that a 3-2 scoring for Jones isn’t way out there (4-1, however, is another matter).

Well, since the bout went down, Jones has said he’s confident he won the fight. He also claimed he’ll “edge” Reyes a “1,000 times”.Despite that, however, the narrative that Reyes in fact, beat Jones, hasn’t gone away.

Obviously Jones is monitoring the situation, as the 205 king has been tweeting out about the fight. Here is just some of what he’s had to say:

I love how whenever I have a competitive fight everyone claims the other guy won. Guess it just comes with the territory

Dominic out struck me by literally 12 shots. I scored the take downs, was the aggressor, control the octagon every round, had more significant strikes landed.. Dom completely stopped fighting in the championship rounds and has the audacity to be mad at the judges.

Don’t be mad at the judges, be mad at Dom’s conditioning guy. man started to give up when the water got deep and is now going around doing interviews talking about being robbed. When will these young boys start taking responsibility ??‍♂️ that’s what’s wrong with boys these days.

At the end of the day, I got to be a part of another classic. I’m over here in ABQ smiling from ear to ear. Having fights like that tickles my pickle, it makes me feel so alive. Makes me feel like a man. Especially when you display having balls the way I did, nothing but a win

And I know my haters are pissed, which also makes me really happy lol

What will the reaction be?

So, depending on whether you think Jones won, or if you’re a fan of the champ, these comments may not sit too well. It’s certainly true that if Reyes hadn’t gassed later in the fight, he very well could be holding the light-heavyweight title today. Further, fights are scored round-by-round, and as noted above, plenty of well-informed people about the sport awarded the first three to Reyes.

All that aside, it certainly looks like Jones is pretty bothered by the fact that a lot of folks scored it for Reyes.
