Francis Ngannou

Francis Ngannou has been talking about throwing hands with Tyson Fury for a little while now. Following the latter’s big win over Deontay Wilder this past weekend, Ngannou has repeated his desire to battle the boxing star. But, in addition, the feared slugger has let it be known that he hopes to fight in multiple, boxing matches.

Ngannou wants to have a “boxing career”

Ngannou and Fury have traded some verbal jabs in the past about fighting, and since Fury stopped Wilder in their rematch, “The Predator” told MMA Junkie this.

“(I’m interested in) competing in the boxing match in general, but Fury and I have some little story together because he was first calling me out in MMA and everything,” Ngannou said. “Basically, the man stands, after his fight yesterday as the best heavyweight. No argument about that – he stands as the best heavyweight. For someone looking to box, you definitely have to go through him to prove that you’re the best.”

Yup. While Ngannou is one of the most feared strikers in all of MMA, in a boxing match, he’d be a huge underdog to defeat Fury. After all, the massive, undefeated boxer finished Wilder, who is one of the most dangerous, power punchers of this generation.

But, Ngannou didn’t stop there. While talking about competing in the sweet science, the heavyweight contender said this:

“I know for a fact that I’m going to do a few boxing matches,” Ngannou said. “I’m not just about one shot. I’m not just like, one big fight. I want to make my own little statement in a boxing career.

“I’m thinking about multiple boxing matches – like straight boxing matches. Let’s see how it plays out. Let’s see what’s on the table, what would be more attractive.”

Could Fury – Ngannou happen?

Although Fury has teased fighting in MMA, and boxing UFC heavyweights with 4-ounce gloves, it’s hard to imagine this bout happening anytime soon, if ever. The big fight for Fury now is a showdown with Anthony Joshua, and after that, the British star will likely have other contenders waiting. Even if some sort of crossover bout with the UFC took place, it would likely be against the champ, Stipe Miocic.

But, you never know. After all, Conor McGregor ended up facing Floyd Mayweather Jr. right?

In the meantime, however, Ngannou is booked to fight noted kickboxer and rising contender, Jairzinho Rozenstruik, March 28th. That’s a fight you don’t want to miss.
