There’s been no shortage of signs pointing to a bout between Jorge Masvidal and Kamaru Usman going down next. But, Colby Covington believes Masvidal is going to “price himself out” of that bout, and “Chaos” wants to run in back with Usman.

Covington trashes power of Conor McGregor, says Masvidal won’t fight Usman

Masvidal pushed for a bout with Conor McGregor for some time, but more recently, it’s become clear the UFC plans to have “Gamebred” fight the welterweight champ next. Case in point, recently UFC President Dana White said the UFC wants to move forward with Usman vs. Masvidal, and that it will likely take place this summer. Further, White has also said that having McGregor fight the winner of the April 18th bout between Khabib Nurmagomedov and Tony Ferguson is the plan.

Despite all that, Covington, supposedly, doesn’t see it playing out that way. While talking to MMA Fighting recently, the controversial fighter said this:

“To be honest, I’m calling it right now — let all the people know. Let Dana [White] and all the people know in this interview that “Street Judas” also known as “Journeyman” Jorge Masvidal is not going to fight “Marty Fakenewsman,” Covington said. “He’s going to wait and price himself out.

“He’s going to try and wait to fight “Con Man” [Conor] McGregor, the little Irish leprechaun, who couldn’t knock an old dude off a barstool. The guy’s got no f*cking power. He couldn’t fight himself out of a wet paper bag. But we’re not talking about “Con Man” McGregor. We’re talking about “Street Judas.” He’s going to think he’s worth more, his value is more and he’s going to wait for Conor or even a Nate Diaz rematch, the soy boy, because everybody knows those Stockton slaps don’t do sh*t. He’s going to price himself out.”

Could Masvidal price himself out of a bout with Usman? It’s possible. But, it does seem like Masvidal’s moved on from pursuing a fight with McGregor. There’s been very little talk about that match-up more recently, and McGregor have never singled Masvidal out really for a call out.

Covington wants a rematch

Since Covington doesn’t see Usman – Masvidal happening, however, he believes the path is clear to fight Usman again. While talking about a rematch, “Chaos” said this:

“…By July, International Fight Week, I’m coming back for the people. I’m coming back for America. I’m America’s champ. At International Fight Week, the champion is going to defend his title. It’s going to be a rematch of what went down Dec. 14, this time with a real and fair playing field. It’s going to be a completely different fight.

“The rematch is going to be completely different because it will be a fair playing field and I will get my hand raised for the people.”

It’s not surprising to see Colby still pushing for a rematch. But, really, it’s hard to imagine that happening unless injuries or contract talks punt Usman – Masvidal. After Covington was stopped by Usman in December, White didn’t mention a rematch as a possibility.
